My mom bought me a puppy for my birthday.
Now, to cut short any squeeeing, I'd like to point out a few things:
- I am turning 30, not 13.
- She does not know if I can afford a dog (and I can't, vet bills and food and everything. I'm not going to have a pet if I can't properly take care of it).
- She knows nothing of where I live and if I have the space for a dog.
- I would get charged $300 by my apt. complex if I was caught owning a pet and then $25 per day until I got rid of it.
- She knows nothing of my lifestyle and if I could take care of a dog (I work in 40 min away from home and am often gone from about 7:30 am to 9 pm. It'd be cruel to leave a dog that long without food or a bathroom break.)
- She doesn't know what kind of dog I'd like (she apparently bought one of those little yappy dogs that I'm supposed to stick in a purse or something like that. If you know me, you know I am not the sort to have a dog you would stick in a purse.).
- She knows I'm a cat person (and I don't have one of those either because of the above mentioned massive fees).
- Sister and I speculate that she bought this gift, in part, because it can't be shipped through UPS and so therefore we'd either have to let her come visit us, or we'd have to go visit her to pick it up. So, as fairly often occurs, a "gift" is really her trying to manipulate us into doing something.
- I am also of the belief that you don't buy an animal as a gift for someone unless: a) they are way under 18 and you are the parent/guardian they are living with and can take care of the pet if they don't, b) you discuss it with the person ahead of time so that you know they want it and can take care of it.
- With the tiny amount that my mother knows me and is in my life, this is somewhat akin to, say, my former supervisor from my last job in Indiana (2003) randomly calling me up and saying they bought me a pet.
Yet more proof of why my mother is totally and completely irresponsible.

Other than that, things are going really well right now. ^_^ Photo stuff going well, belly dance and yoga are great, happy with Ken, looking very forward to Brandon Con and my Birthweek, had a string of a few weekends where I didn't go anywhere and could actually get stuff done at home, and it's time to start working on my Halloween costume. ^_^
