I finished watching Death Note a week or two ago (Trigun was finished the week before), though there were some issues getting to the end.
I finish ep. 35 only to realize that eps. 36 and 37 were .MKVs, not .AVIs. NP, I think. I'll just find an .MKV player and download it and I happily start watching. At 13 minutes into the episode, the video freezes but the sound keeps moving! O_O 13 minutes in is the scene when team Light meets team Near in the warehouse! Critical moment! I freak out and start downloading another .MKV player and call Amanda to share because I'm very keyed up and need to talk to someone else before my brain explodes. She suggests a player, I download that and finish DN (though the subtitles were kinda wonky at times).
Thoughts on DN: I liked it. The last bit with Ryuk was predictable, but I was kinda surprised "good" won. I thought Light would win against Near, but ultimately lose because Ryuk would kill him and his whole "godhood" would be harshly revealed to him to be a futile dream, because even if he defeated every single human foe who pursued him, he would eventually lose against time and his own death. Instead I felt the flavor of the ending was more that even though L died, L still ultimately beat him. Either that or ghost L was coming to watch him die. ^_~
All in all, the plot seemed pretty tight, though I'll have to watch it again to see if there are any holes I can pick out. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and need to add it to my anime collection. ^_^
Did anyone else think the scene where L dried off Light's feet was totally yaoi?
I have to rant here a bit. Back in May, I was at about episode 17. A friend of mine says, "Hey, did you get to the part where L dies yet?" >_< WTF?!?!?! Why would you say that?!?! Why not ask me where I am in the series? Hell, even an "What's going on with L right now?" would have worked. That was such a bitch-ass move. Ugh. I could have throttled him. I was so pissed, I ended up not watching any more eps until a few weeks ago.
Over the weekend I finished Claymore. Overall an interesting series, but the manga is ongoing and they wanted to give the anime a finale, so they had to veer severely off of the plot for the last five or so episodes. I would have preferred if they could have stuck truer to the manga plot, but that's just how I am. It's worth a watch once though.
Now I'm watching Le Chevalier D'On. Takes place in France during the reign of Louis XV. Not the usual style of anime I watch, so it's a nice change of pace. It's well done (so far) though I prefer my supernatural stuff to not be so based in the mundane. Also, it's slightly disconcerting to expect French to come out of someone's mouth and hear Japanese instead. ^^
