So, Rozalin is generally nothing to be afraid of. Spoiled princess in a wedding cake of a dress, cannot even fight when you first meet her, etc. But there's a character in Disgaea 2 who reacts oddly to her upon seeing her, saying that she feels evil, and then trying to kill her. None of the characters know why at that point, but oh does it become apparent later.
SO MANY SPOILERS AHEAD.
Rozalin, throughout the game, will readily remind people that she is a princess, the only daughter of Overlord Zenon, the God of All Overlords. However, in camp you'll notice that she only claims being a princess and makes no mention of her father. This is because at the end of the game, you discover that the man claiming to be both her father and Overlord Zenon is neither. Rozalin herself is Overlord Zenon. To make things simple, because with the shared names it can get complicated, from here we'll refer to her "father" as Fake!Zenon.
So. In Rozalin's past life as the true Overlord Zenon, she retreated to the world of Veldime to reincarnate and escape her violent existence. After she was reborn, however, the Fake!Zenon found her and slaughtered the clan she was born into. He shut her in a mansion, raising her as his own daughter. Apparently the fact that she idolized him as her father was supposed to be some sort of revenge, because as the true Overlord Zenon she had defeated him horribly.
Rozalin grows to age seventeen never suspecting a thing, and never meeting her "father" the Fake!Zenon, though he sends her gifts and ensures that her life is one of comfort and ease. Her mansion is filled with servants just for her, furniture crafted just for her... you get the point. All goes well until Adell's family summons her out of her mansion.
To prove that she truly is the one and only daughter of the Fake!Zenon, Rozalin has a magical seal of a four-leaved clover that she will display. This seal is known as a symbol of the Fake!Zenon (who, by the way, everybody still thinks is the real Zenon even though he's not. Yeah). This seal serves another purpose, however; it has sealed away Rozalin's memories and power as Overlord Zenon.
So what happens if you break it? Laharl asks this question, and then decides to find out by trying it. Rozalin's consciousness slips away, and the personality of Overlord Zenon emerges. Zenon is incredibly fucking powerful, and deals with Laharl easily. Unfortunately, Zenon is also pretty damn emo mentally unstable, saying things like "I am a being of solitude. My awakening is your death knell." So after dealing with Laharl, she turns to Adell and the rest of Rozalin's allies, with rather murderous intent.
So Adell slaps her.
The seal then reinstates itself, returning Rozalin's consciousness to the forefront. At this point in the game nobody knows what the fuck just happened. |Db
It isn't until the final boss fight of the game is over that Rozalin's Zenon personality re-emerges, at which point everything is explained. Nobody else attacks Rozalin's seal in this instance; instead her "father," Fake!Zenon, is attacking the entire group, Rozalin included. Adell jumps in front of her, taking the brunt of the attack, telling Rozalin he'll protect her... but he's obviously in no shape to do this after suffering such an attack. Rozalin is at a loss as to what to do, when a voice inside her asks if she desires power. She does, naturally; the power to save everybody. So her consciousness slips away and she/Zenon breaks the seal herself, freeing Zenon's personality, powers, and memories all in one.
At this point the Fake!Zenon addresses Rozalin as Overlord Zenon, explains his foolish little revenge plot, and Zenon!Roz simply does not care. She kills him in one hit, but when Adell approaches her, she tells him he's also her enemy. At this point we learn Zenon is just one big ball of emo all alone in the world, who fears that everybody will betray her and/or die if they get close to her.
So Adell hugs her instead of slapping her this time. Zenon's personality slowly fades, but then Rozalin herself says that she can't trust anybody, that they'll just betray her. And Adell tells her to trust this, and kisses her.
The important thing to note here, other than Adell and Roz being too cute for their own good, is that the seal does not return this time when Rozalin's personality returns. I would say this is due to two factors. The first is that it was Rozalin herself who broke the seal in this case, as opposed to an outside force breaking it the first time. The second is that the Fake!Zenon, who put the seal on her in the first place, is now dead. Still, the bottom line is that she returns to herself without the seal returning. The Zenon personality seems to fade out, but Rozalin herself says things that would otherwise be out of character for her, but are things her Zenon personality would say. So, why?
One could argue that the two personalities have merged and balanced, but this is not what I think is the case. I believe this is because Rozalin has just suffered an enormous betrayal of her own; the man who raised her and whom she idolized as her beloved father in fact hated her and tried to kill her friends and loved ones. Obviously that's going to be a little upsetting. But having an Adell makes everything better. |3 So, in conclusion the Zenon personality is still separate, though without the seal holding it back there may have also been some bleeding over. Regardless, Rozalin's personality is the dominant one.
SO what does this mean for Rozalin in camp?
Rozalin's alternate self as Overlord Zenon is the reason that she'll ping any psychics or people who can sense evil, and she'll ping their radars pretty hard. She's not even doing anything, necessarily, just kind of leaking excess evil. |D It's up to you how much your character can pick up on; especially with her seal eliminated, she may be emitting a good deal of evil.
She will have access to her powers as Zenon--however it isn't free access like "Oh I feel like blowing that up let's go!" It's more like "oh shit if I don't do something Adell will die." It's a last resort that she needs to be really, really pushed to bring out. There is no seal to be broken to unleash these powers, so she can unleash them basically when she's about to get completely fuckered and has no other options. However, as I said above, I consider the Zenon personality to still be a separate personality. Therefore using these extra powers will run the risk of Zenon's personality re-emerging and taking over Rozalin's consciousness. Probably no matter what there will be some character bleed between her and Zenon when she uses the powers, but in the case of a complete switch, only Adell can return her to her normal state.
So because of all that, Zenon!Roz will not be showing up without advance planning and extra icon space. If your character encounters Zenon!Roz? Prepare for a beat-down. Zenon!Roz uses no weapons, but just a bare-handed attack is incredibly powerful, not to mention her magic technique Dark Liberation. She's at level 1900, 700 levels above what Laharl is when you fight him and he breaks her seal. Basically it's only going to be other godmodders that can keep up with her, if at all. But again, as I said, not happening without advance planning, and I'll be on IRC if it does so that I can consult players OOC about the hazards of Zenon!Roz.
Another concern is, if Rozalin now knows that her life until now was a farce and her father was not her father at all, why does she continue to call herself a princess? The fact of the matter is that she was raised as one, and if she were to change her title to what she truly is, well, calling oneself "Goddess of All Overlords" isn't exactly something she wants to do. It's simpler to continue saying she's a princess--and after all, her Zenon personality wanted to leave all that bloodshed of her past life behind. Reclaiming the title of Goddess of All Overlords defeats the purpose. So, bottom line, she still expects to be treated with the respect due to royalty, which she figures she'd get as Overlord anyway, and will insist on being addressed as a princess despite the little details and technicalities. |Db
I think that's all. For now. =]
