lines of somewhat dubious memorability

As with most of my posts, I tried to find a linkage. Thus, the subject header.

  • After helping evadne_noel move house yesterday, her parents took us out to dinner. Obviously, since E. was there, too, my high-wit mode was already "on," so this ensued:

    N.'s dad, perusing the menu: "Chicken a la Yanni???"
    Me: Does it come with bad music?
    {rim shot}
    {Well, not really, but there should have been one.}

  • Since I keep moaning to myself that I miss China and am sad to feel I'm losing my Mandarin skillz, I'm reviewing old lessons. This morning I skipped ahead in the textbook I was reading and came across a note at the top of an otherwise non-notable page of vocabulary.

    It is scrawled in my own hand: "BSC -- I think I hear your wife, Mr. Kennedy."

    Huh?? I find it totally mystifying, and it even makes me feel a little dirty.

    (I mean, ew, which Kennedy??? Unless BSC is short for "Beschloss." I could go for that.)

    Unrelated, but worth mentioning: I had a really cool dream last night. I was in a supermarket, and all of the departments I visited were previous jobs and interests. The guy behind the deli counter was my college Chinese teacher, Li Laoshi. In my dream, I spoke stilted Mandarin (apparently I don't know the words for "roast beef,") to him and after assuring him I didn't want anything from the deli, we started to chat.

    Unfortunately, I didn't make it through the whole supermarket. So I want to know, where else was I going? What other departments represent my future??? What if I can't get this dream back when I go to bed tonight?
