The Rant FROM SPAAAAACE

In ASTRO 001 H, I learned that space is totally nuts. Scientists are confident about what they "know," but it's largely speculation. ASTRO 001 has convinced me even further that, despite what the philosophers say, Science will never kill God. Science is mainly interested in killing Science. This isn't to say that Science doesn't sometimes get it right, and proves Organized Religions wrong. But, for those of you just joining us, God is not subservient to Organized Religion. The failures of Organized Religion are not the failures of God.

Yes, the Catholic Church promoted a geocentric universe. The Catholic Church may have told a lot of people what to do back in the day, they didn't tell God what to do. Galileo was ostracized by the Church for challenging their beliefs, and suggesting a heliocentric universe. But guess what? Science now plays the role the Church played then! I recently heard from my dad that the two guys who invented the next step in medical imaging technology (think MRI/CAT scan stuff) got the Nobel Prize. The guy who laid the groundwork for them by inventing either the CAT or MRI didn't get squat, even though he made their advances possible, and one Nobel Prize can be awarded as many as three people. What is different about this guy? He doesn't believe in evolution, for one thing. He goes against traditional scientific belief, and for that, he gets ostracized. Sound familiar?

I'm sick of the hypocrisy. You're lying to me if you tell me that everyone's beliefs are okay, and then treat mine like they're substandard. And here's what really gets me ticked. At least the Catholic Church could say that their knowledge came from God, even though it was a blatant lie unsupported by anything in the Bible. The people who do this kind of thing today don't even claim any other higher authority! Why should I believe you? Because you say so? You're just a human, frail and fallible as I am. To put this in terms everyone can understand: "You're not the boss of me!" You can claim no higher authority, other than the house of cards you're standing on.

This is mainly directed to professors and other "intellectuals" I've met. They base everything on Science, but Science changes daily. I have nothing wrong with not being able to explain everything, but science is generally smug and overconfident. Suppositions built on suppositions don't make facts.

Anyhow... this was originally supposed to be about the end of my semester, but it turned into a somewhat of a free thought rant. Sorry about that!
