It had been the most stressful and noisy day of Ishida’s life. Taking his laboring wife, Orihime to the hospital and enduring the hours of labor and delivery. Ishida’s hands were severely bruised and he was sure that at least three fingers had a hairline fractures.
But now the pain was over with, and the payoff of a lifetime was theirs. Orihime had given birth to their first daughter. The happy couple was now huddled together, bonding over their newborn daughter.
“What are you going to name her?” One of the nurses in the delivery room had asked them, breaking them out of their reverie.
“Do you have any ideas, Uryuu?” Orihime looked up, beaming at her husband.
“The Ishida nomenclature usually involves taking a part of one of the parent’s name and using that to create the child’s name. I think we should use a part of your name, Orihime, for our daughter.” Ishida looked thoughtful as he tried to figure out how to build a name for his baby girl.
“Kaori sounds like a pretty name! What do you think, Uryuu?” Orihime gently pet her daughter’s tiny hand between her forefinger and thumb.
“It sounds beautiful! Just like my daughter.” Ishida stroked his daughter’s head, which was covered in short, black hair.
Just before the new Ishida family left the hospital, they picked up Kaori’s birth certificate. Ishida picked it up from the desk, and inspected the birth date on the certificate. Ishida was shocked. He had been so caught up in the day’s exciting events that he had not realized what the date was. He showed the certificate to his wife, who also noticed the date.
“Uryuu! It’s your birthday!” Orihime was shocked.
“I know! And this will be the best birthday present I’ll ever have. Thank you, Orihime.” Ishida leaned down to kiss his wife, who was sitting in a wheelchair holding their sleeping daughter.
