Rogue gave him a sad smile as she leaned across to push his hair away from his forehead. "I know, sugar. I figured as much. You just kinda gave me a small heart attack, ya know?" She looked at him steadily, her brown eyes searching his red. "You coulda come stay at our place. It ain't like I'm not already home all day. Lookin' after you woulda helped break up the monotony."

Even if she desperately wanted to know if something had happened with Flynn and Maddy, Rogue kept her mouth shut about it. She knew with Remy it wouldn't do any good to ask outright unless she wanted to get kicked out of here quicker than she'd manage to curse in French.

Rmey held her gaze until he had to break it and look up at the ceiling. He drew his lip in between his teeth a sucked in a small breath. "I don't want to be a burden to you, belle. It's not easy taking care of me like this..." Clearly, considering he'd driven two people away because of it.

She snorted as she poked him in the shoulder. The shoulder was a safe area and nowhere near the wound, so she figured she could get away it. "You're stupid, Remy. Really, really stupid. You ain't ever been a burden for me. You're one of my best friends, don't you get that? I've put up with ya through all kindsa crap, same as you've put up with me."

"That's what they said," Remy told her. He rested his head back on the pillow and then squeezed his eyes shut. "I was stupid. I should never have thought it was going to work."

"They?" She pulled her chair a little bit closer and took his hand in hers. "Maddy and Flynn? Did they... they kicked you out?" Anger flashed across Rogue's features and she squeezed his hand. "How could they do that to ya? And if you've already forgotten I've known ya a hell of a lot longer than them. Ain't I proven myself to you?"

Remy gave a slight of of laugh, but not humour was in it. "Non, chere. They couldn't kick me out. It was my apartment." He opened his eyes. "You never really had to prove yourself to me. You just sort of clicked into place."

He wet his lips and put his hand near his hip to it softly. All the movement and in and out of wheelchairs and cars had his back throbbing again. It was getting better, but too much set the pain into gear again. "I overheard them talking. Flynn's... had enough. Doesn't think it's working. Didn't want to do it anymore. Maddy doesn't want me without Flynn. Plain and simple. But it was my fault."

Rogue let out a soft sigh and gave a shake of her head. "I'm sorry, sugar. I'm so sorry. I can't believe that, though. It doesn't make sense. I can't believe they even came to the party while you were... I just can't believe it."

She watched him. "They don't look right without you. I don't even know if they were havin' a good time. They didn't smile much. I was so sure they were the real deal."

Remy put his hand over his eyes. He wasn't one to cry over shit like this, but he would if he kept looking at her. Hearing them talk like that had hurt. "They told me they could take care of me," he mumbled from behin his hand.

Rogue shifted out of her chair and up onto the bed. She slid her arm around him and held him. "I'd make it better for you if I could, Remy," she whispered. "Want me to kick their asses?"

Remy shook his head. "It's my fault. I was stupid. I pushed things too far and this is the consequences. And maybe I was stupid to even try this relationship shit in the first place. I deserve everything I get."

"No, no you don't." Her voice got stronger as she started to get annoyed. "This is not your fault, so stop sayin' that. You ain't the one that's abandoned someone who needs help and care and love. It's their fault. They're the ones in the wrong."

"I tried to walk when I shouldn't have. Flynn was sick and I didn't want to bother him. I fell, hit my head. He was really upset and frustrated by it, so he had rights to be angry at me. Then the morning after, I heard them talking he was saying stuff about how he resented me for making him feel stuck and that he wanted things back to how they were. It is my fault. If I hadn't gotten into that situation with them in the first place, they wouldn't be feeling like that at all," Remy insisted and pressed the heels of his hands against his eyes.

Rogue held him tighter and rest her head against his shoulder. "Sugar... I know I'm kinda sidin' with you by default and all, but don't ya think there's every possibility that what you heard wasn't the whole thing? We all need a little time to vent. Doesn't mean it's what we really think. Just means we're gettin' all the negative stuff out. It's better just to say it all then hang on to it."

"I didn't hear the whole thing. But isn't that enough? It just makes me sick to think what was said that I couldn't hear. Why couldn't they say it to me rather than plotting what to do behind my back without talking to me about it? I told them to tell me if they couldn't do this. I told them over and over," Remy said in frustration.

"I don't know what to say 'cause I ain't them. I guess you've done the right thing in comin' here, and at least you called me and the Doc. You're not alone, even if it feels like it." Rogue was already plotting ways she could tear Flynn and Maddy to strips for doing this to her friend. "They're the weak ones, not you."
