Riley & TabpullmystethAugust 29 2009, 10:13:21 UTC
Riley was a doctor, and as an Emergency Physician, he had dealt a lot with pregnant woman over the time, even delivered a couple of babies who weren't going to wait to see the delivery suite. But when it came to his own flesh and blood or family, he was awed. He found himself sitting at the bar looking at Evie, who was four months pregnant and looking closer to seven months with twins in there, and then at Ali, who was only a month behind and barely sporting a tiny bump. It was just intriguing for him. Plus, he thought it was sweet how Andrew, whenever he approached Ali, kissed her cheek and his hands automatically went to her belly. Riley wondered if he did the same. If he did, it must have become such second nature that he didn't even realise. The thing was, it was getting harder to get his arms around Evie now, not that he would tell her that. He loved it. He even loved pregnant sex. Maybe he really was just kinky at heart. It was just something to be said knowing that bump was something he helped make

Tab was off the stage again, and ducked behind the bar to get herself a bottle of water before she made her way to her brother's side. She caught the look on his face before he'd dragged it away, and bumped against him as she grinned. "I don't think you have to be shy when it's your own wife you're perving on."
Tab then saw Luke and Andrew gazing at Leila's soldier, and smirked. "He's pretty cute, huh? I hope they don't mess up his face when they start tearing into him."
Re: Riley & TabpullmystethAugust 29 2009, 10:29:28 UTC
"I wasn't perving!" Riley protested hastily and gave Tab a nudge in the side. "I was comparing. Evie is only four weeks further along than Ali. I'm being a stupid male and trying to wrap my head around it."
He looked back to the two Aussies looking much like they were building a tactical plan of action that would probably put the soldier's skills to shame. "He is, I'll give her that much. She has good taste. The guy has this Southern charm thing going. He called Josh 'sir, and Josh nearly fell off his bar stool," he sniggered. "I so couldn't be military."
Re: Riley & TabasinthecityAugust 29 2009, 10:44:08 UTC
Tab's eyebrows went up as she looked from Evie to Ali, and back to Riley while taking a sip of her water. "I'm a smart female and still can't get my head around it. I say embrace her big belly, and love it."
"I knew I was doing the right thing sending him in the direction of the Bondi. Not that I was setting him up, but the place has hooking up vibes. Look at Pat, and Aiden, and me and Luke." Tab arched an eyebrow at her husband as he stopped conspiring for a moment to find her across the bar. He just smirked, and got back into his plotting. "He what? Seriously? No wonder Josh is still looking funny." Tab looked at her brother. "Why not?"
Re: Riley & TabpullmystethAugust 29 2009, 10:52:46 UTC
Riley nodded. "Yeah, I do. But it's just interesting to see the two comparisons. Can you tell me if I look anything like Andrew when I'm with Evie? Because he gets this kind of goofy smile on his face. I'm not like that, am I?"
"You've spoken to him? Seriously? And Beth and Keiran met here, too," he reminded her. He sipped his beer, smirking. "Yeah, shook Josh's hand, the whole polite deal. He talks like Rogue, only a little different. I can't imagine what the hell Luke and Andrew are conspiring. The guy has been completely attentive to their cousin all night. She hasn't had to get a single drink on her own, and she doesn't need to try and blackmail him onto the dancefloor like some blokes." He shrugged. "Being away from my family? Andrew said the guy could get sent back to the Middle East for months on end at any minute."
Re: Riley & TabasinthecityAugust 29 2009, 10:58:33 UTC
Tab gave her brother a look. "You're worse. You look like you're going to turn into jello when you're with her, and your hands all over the bump."
Tab nodded. "Online, so not the real deal, I guess. He was new to the City, and I just wanted to make sure he had a good time." She bit her lip briefly. "Oh yeah, and Beth and Kei. And every single one of us is still going strong. I'm waiting for Kei to pop the question to Beth, but it hasn't happened yet." Tab bumped her shoulder against her brother again. "Same reason you probably kept conspiring against Luke in the beginning?" She slipped her arm around her brother, and leaned against him. "Yeah, I don't think you should be in the military either. It was hard enough while you were in Scotland being a doctor."
Re: Riley & TabpullmystethAugust 29 2009, 11:09:04 UTC
"Well, it's a big bump! And I don't do the goofy thing, do I?" Riley looked at Andrew, who was looking at Ali and automatically Riley looked at Evie. "Ah shit, I'm doomed."
He sipped his beer in thought. "Keiran's got his son. Beth seems wonderful with him, but I guess it's not just as cut and dry as we had it with Evie and Luke. There's things to consider. To be honest, though, Beth deserves it. She does." He snorted. "Hey, when did I conspire against him? I was sick. I simply told him in the kitchen that night if he fucked with you, I would murder him. I think it got the message through. Oh, and the whole wedding thing. I think I might have yelled just a little bit on the wedding day. True, and I turned down Doctors Without Borders for the same reason. I got offered to go to Africa."
Re: Riley & TabasinthecityAugust 29 2009, 11:15:11 UTC
Tab started to snicker, and stole Riley's beer for a sip before returning it. "You're are so totally doomed it's not funny."
"Yeah, true. I guess it's huge. Like Ali and Andrew. I know they have to consider Jamie all the time." Tab rolled her eyes. "Well, if there hadn't been yelling on the wedding day, I sure as fuck would have yelled. You got me my husband. I can't thank you enough. Well, maybe they just need to threaten him with murder and get over the plotting? I don't know what they have against Rob." Tab blinked. "You never mentioned that before."
Re: Riley & TabpullmystethAugust 29 2009, 11:24:32 UTC
"I can't help it. I'm going to be a Dad. We get dork leeway," Riley said with a small sniff, leaning back against the bar.
He nodded. "That comes with the parent territory. Only they seem to make it work. I mean, look right there. Ali and Andrew are pretty much in the same boat as Keiran and Beth. It's just, the ball is in Beth's court whether she wants to permanantly be a Mum to a kid that isn't naturally hers." He smirked at her, elbowing her lightly. "You got the husband yourself, I just threatened vital parts of his anatomy and got resonant. Think threatening a US soldier with murder is polite? I mean, he does protect our country on the frontline. Maybe they think he's too perfect and they're waiting for him to fuck up?"
He shrugged. "That's because I never seriously considered it. It would have killed me being away any longer. This was just before I came home. Right after I got the job offer at PPTH."
Re: Riley & TabasinthecityAugust 29 2009, 11:30:19 UTC
"We'll see. Depends how dorky you get," Tab teased with a laugh.
"I think she's pretty good at it already. I guess it is in her court... The kid would know her by now though, right? He's getting older. Same as Jamie will start recognising Andrew as part of her world." Tab shook her head. "No, you got him. Because without you yelling sense at him, he might have left me there... I could still be brokenhearted right now. Instead I'm happily married. Small fights and all. Well, maybe not murder... I mean, he could kill Luke and Andrew in their sleep if he considers them a threat to America. Maybe? I don't know... I'll have to interrogate Luke after."
Tab still looked a little shocked at the revelation, but she pulled herself together. "Same reason I couldn't do a big tour, or go back to New York..."
Re: Riley & TabpullmystethAugust 29 2009, 11:43:30 UTC
"Well, look, Andrew has no dork, and he really is pulling off the Dad Dork thing right now. I need extra wiggle room because I'm technically already a dork," Riley reasoned, sniggering in amusement

Re: Riley & TabasinthecityAugust 29 2009, 11:55:30 UTC
"This is so very true. I got all the cool genes, and left you with the dork ones." Tab stuck her tongue out at him as she winked before breaking out into laughter again.
"Are you going to be able to nurture two tiny sponges?" Tab asked, looking at her brother with concern. Now her mind also briefly flickered to all these sponges surrounding her and feeding off vibes. It was enough to almost turn her off the idea of kids again. "He should have just said something in the beginning. I could have changed our plans. Even if I loved sharing that day with you and Evie. Wow... that's some serious gun stuff at play. At least they'd have to know Leila was safe."
"Otherwise you spend a lot of time living with what ifs, and regrets."
Re: Riley & TabpullmystethAugust 29 2009, 12:01:08 UTC
Riley just snorted in amusement. "One day that head of yours is going to explode."
"Yeah, of course. I've got no choice. We'll just deal the best we can. I mean, it's not just the parents, it's everyone in their life. Kids are amazing. Just sitting and watching them pick up on things is brilliant. They start getting personalities early on, too. Likes and dislikes, knowing what feels good and what doesn't. But crying is the only way they can show that. You can tell a lot just by the way a baby cries." He finished off his beer and waved the barman down again. "Yeah, but give him a break. You were pretty emphatic about the twin wedding. It just freaked him out and he needed a wake up call. I think the whole soldier thing just might be confronting. You can see in the flesh, though, that he's just a normal bloke."
He nodded slowly. "Yeah, but even then you can make decisions and still have regrets. Not everything is cut and dry."
Re: Riley & TabasinthecityAugust 29 2009, 12:06:43 UTC
Tab just smirked. "Yeah, but it'll be a fucking awesome explosion."
"I guess so... It's just huge. It's easy to forget kids are so... impressionable. They just seem like drooling poop factories at first that might suck our faces off, and then they start with the sponging thing. I don't want your kids absorbing the wrong stuff off me. What kind of stuff?" Tab took a huge sip of water and nodded. "I know, and I have. I was just saying. I wanted to thank you again for that day. I guess I was a Bridezilla without even realising... I never meant to be. Of course he's a normal bloke! Not all soldiers are Arnie."
Tab pulled her mouth to the side. "World would be a different place if it was, huh?"
Re: Riley & TabpullmystethAugust 29 2009, 12:13:18 UTC
Riley just rolled his eyes, but he was laughing. "Hey you better be prepared to shuffle over the awesomeness a little. You don't know what little balls of amazing we could be breeding."
"I'm in the same boat as you. It's not like I've been a father before. I'm going to fuck up. Evie's going to fuck up. All new parents fuck up. But it's learning from the fuck ups that makes the difference. I'm sure there are way worse people my kids could be around than you. Just whether they're tired or lonely or sick or hungry or just pissed off. Listen to RJ next time we have him. He cries differently for different things. Of course, the hard part is recognising what cry is what. Tara and Lachlan know, but that's a Mum and Dad thing. You get to know your own offspring." He looked at her and laughed. "Arnie? I'm going to tell him you think he looks like Arnie," he said deviously.
"Yeah, true. I think that's the whole point. You can't change the world, but you can change your world."
Re: Riley & TabasinthecityAugust 29 2009, 12:18:13 UTC
Tab made a face. "Hey, I have a few months before I need to share the awesome spotlight. I'm making the most of it before your spawn pushes me out of the way."
Her head was tilted as she looked over at Evie, and her bump. "I want to be a good aunt, beanpole. I don't want to fuck it up too much. These are gonna be your kids... They're gonna mean the world to me." Her head whipped around, and she glared at her brother. "I don't think he looks like Arnie, arse pain. I was trying to say he didn't."
