So it's been another 20 weeks since I've updated my livejournal, but as Aaron was pointing out to me, very few of our good friends care about their livejournals. I remember when it was SUCH the thing.
I suppose the upswing of such websites as Facebook and MySpace have sort of spelled doom for online blogging, especially since most of us have passed out of the "I"m going to whine about my life online and maybe some kid in France will really care what I think about the world..."
I know no one in France will care. In fact, I know that no one who actually reads this will care, but it's an exercise in a public forum. Emotionally, writing makes things better in a strange way to complain about your life to an unknown entity online. Even to an unknown reader in a private diary. But to me. all of this online living just factors into the idea that we no longer have private lives, and even our most private thoughts (that belong in journals and diaries) are free and availible to anyone who knows the URL of our live journal.
When we were younger, we desired attention and interest in our lives, to be cool enough to actually be read about online and considered amusing was important to us. For many of us this phase has passed, or better yet, evolved into a more cohearant and significant thought process that doesn't involve the internet. I think that livejournal more than any website is a cry for attention. Having an online blog about anything is a cry for attention and worship. But my opinion is rather tinted by an impression left on me by a certain person (who shall remain nameless, but will continue to irk me until some sort of resolution... but that may not be possible) who is indeed very self-centered.
But we are all masters of our own universe's aren't we?
