Saturday evening MWR hosted Freedom Fest 2007. It's the annual Independence Day celebration for the weapons station. They had plenty of food, drinks, games, and live music, followed by a wonderful fireworks display. There was scheduled a huge sporting tournament to include arm wrestling, jousting, sumo wrestling and an obstacle course. Well, early on in the event a thunderstorm came through so the event was delayed for about an hour and a half. In the long run, this was very beneficial to Matt. They only had time for 2 of the scheduled events, sumo and joust. Matt took 2nd place in the jousting tournament and 1st in the sumo wrestling tournament. He won $25 in MWR gift certificates for the sumo and, because those ended up being the only two events, he won the overall tournament, scoring him another $100 in certificates. We plan on using the winnings at Short Stay camping and boating and such the weekend before my birthday(July 31st) as a birthday celebration! (Anyone who is interested in joining let us know we are trying to get a big group together) Amidst all this, Natalie Stovall, a country singer from Columbia, TN, was performing fairly well. She did mostly covers but she is quite talented with a fiddle. All-in-all it was a great time; a great way to kick off an extended Independence Day celebration.
Here are a few pictures of the event. We forgot our camera (shocker I know) but we did get some pics with our phones. I uploaded them all to my "Holidays" album on my myspace for those who are interested and also on www.sarahandmatthew.shutterfly.com in the Freedom fest album
