I finally got the housing situation all straightened out. I am living with the girl in the office next to mine, Robin, and her aptmate Ashley (not to be confused with my hs friends Robin and Ashley S). They have a sweet 3/2 in North Campus 7 min walking distance from the engineering building. It's a condo around 31st and Duval that Ashley's father owns. It's 1600 sq ft of indoor space and 488 sq ft of balcony space, with my room talking up 112 of that. Definitely not the biggest room in the house, but it's slightly bigger than my room at home. I share one of the bathrooms with Robin. It has a dishwasher, washer and dryer in addition. Also, I only have to provide a bed. Some family friends gave back some furniture Ashley's family let them borrow and someone in their family died this summer and left them a bunch of furniture, so she has two houses worth of hardwood furniture. Maybe not the coolest furniture, but it should be pretty at least (and FREEEEEEE). Ashley's dad is having the condo recarpeted and repainted along with some other minor construction before we move in (sometime btwn the 20th and the 25th). In addition, her dad just got a new TV, so he gave her the old one, which is apparently up to her chest. That means this TV should be 42+ inches!!! HOLY CRAP!! Given all this, I'm sure you'd be expecting me to be paying an arm and a leg for the place. Nope. $500/mo ALL BILLS PAID. WOW. I am the luckiest person in the world!
Also, there are some weird social connections with both Robin and Ashley. I met Robin when she moved to Austin 6 weeks into my senior year and her junior year. After a few months of hanging out, I figured out that her father was the new doctor at the office that my mom does transcription for. She also offered to turn in my resume for me at ARL when her boss asked for recommendations. At first, our offices were really far apart, I then moved close to her, and then back to another office that was next to my first office. About a week after that, she moved into my old office.
Ashley, who I've never met in person, and I have an even more intertwined history. This story starts out with my friend Andy Tang. To make things easy, here is our friend info from facebook:
He was in my band class and I thought he was somebody else I had met at dinner the day before. I kept turning around and smiling at him. Then I said soemthing to him and he said his name was Andy. I didn't believe him because the person who I met the day before introduced himself as Lawrence but later his friends told me his name was Tim. I made Andy pull out his id to proove that was actually his name. It took me another week to figure out they were two different people.
The next semester after meeting Andy, one of his close friends turned out to be lab partners with one of my close hs friends Ashley S. This last year, Andy was going to go to a concert with his friend Emily, who was bringing a freind of her's, John, who was bringing a friend of his own. That friend wound up being Ashley S agagin. So as it turns out, Andy is friends with my new roommate Ashley B. She is supposedly even closer to his housemates (there's 5 of them!) On average, I have 4 friends in common with any given friend of hers on facebook. The first one listed, I recognized as a friend of Ashley S and the second one listed is a guy who I ate dinner with several times last year due to his friendship with my friend Josh. Ashley B is also friends with a girl who I have not seen in about 7 years but was in my girl scout troop in middle school!!! Talk about a small world!!
And that is all the crazy housing business that has happened in the last couple of weeks.
