At 3am tonight, I'm leaving on a weeklong adventure in the Outback of Australia. We're flying in to Alice Springs, then driving/hiking/camping our way over to Uluru and then back again. On the way there should be some mountains, gorges, and deserts... with a high of about 95. Here's the official blurb on the trip:
"The Red Centre is a landscape enriched with spectacular natural wonders, indigenous culture and Australian Outback heritage. We will visit the world's largest monolith, Uluru, walk amongst the many domes of Kata Tjuta and take an overnight walk on the famous Giles Track to Kings Canyon. In the Red Centre you will be surrounded by sweeping desert plains of rich red earth hundreds of millions of years old.
Geologically, it is a story of unimaginable continental upheavals, erosion, formation of inland seas and great climate changes. The Anangu people have a different answer to how Central Australian features were created. These answers are in the Tjukurpa, the foundation of Anangu culture, which is the relationship between people, plants, animals and the physical features of the land."
Sound like fun? Wish me luck!
