A poem.

[He gets that feeling]

It's cool you're into poems and reading. I can't say I've read any recently, though.

[Tatsumi nods at her, meaning to nod at the blackboard near her]

But I agree with that one.

...I've done some reading when I used to attend the classes here.

Do you? It's my first time writing it in English.

You don't do any reading on your own?

Ya! I can read and speak both. It comes in handy.

Did you copy that from a book or translate it yourself?

Back home I did, but I didn't have much of a variety to select from. I eventually grew tired of reading the same books. [Mostly because she has been trapped living the same time period for centuries.]

Mii. I translated it myself.

Ya, that's no fun. I guess here isn't much better, though...

From what I can see, it's very good! What else is written, though? Could you read it for me, in English?

Some of the books here are difficult for me to read because they're in English, but I'm getting better at it.

[It's thanks to Souji for teaching her...]

[A small pause as she debates whether or not she wants to read it. There should be no harm in telling him the whole thing...]

Everyone has a right to pursue a happy life.
The difficult part is to be given that right.
Everyone has a right to pursue a happy life.
The difficult part is to fulfill that right.
I too have a right to pursue a happy life.
The difficult part is to work out a compromise for that right.

[He waits until Rika finishes, listening.]

Ya. It's a good poem, specially for this place.

Reminds me of someone, too.

[You remind me of someone. Even if you're younger looking than Sunako, it's hard to dismiss]

It's a good job. You should be proud of it.

[She is a babby Sunako.]

...Thank you very much. It took some practice, but I could finally translate it into English.

Who does it remind you of?

Sunako. She isn't here, but...

She's young, a little older than you, I think, but she likes reading too. That poem is something she would appreciate.

...is that so? A friend of yours?

A dear friend. She is the single daughter of the family I served where I'm from. She has an illness that doesn't permit her much time with others except for a few hours each day, if her health is well.

But she is very kind and well spoken for her age.
