A compromise for it, eh?

What if a person's happiness involves the destruction and pain of nearly everyone else in their path?

... [A pause. Little girl didn't mean to show part of the poem to anyone. B|]

There are other ways to be happy. There has to be a way around that.

[Yeah. He knows how that is. Still a good poem.]

So sure of that?

... [She'll recite what sounds to be another poem to you.]

Please tell me what happened in this night.
It's like the cat inside the box.
Please tell me what happened in this night.
You don't know if the cat in the box is dead or alive.
Please tell me what happened in this night...

[There's one more line to the poem, but she won't say it. She wrote it in the past and the final line applied to a different situation. Then she answers his question:]

I don't know yet, but if it were me in that position, I won't accept destruction and pain as the only answer to find happiness.

[Whether it's visible or not through Marco's typical mask of deadpan, it definitely struck a deep chord.]

Kind of unfortunate then that there are so many who do. I just don't know how to compromise with them.

[A very distant look and just shakes his head sadly.] You all right kid?

A close friend of mine that I shared this poem with told me that making compromises is also the same as giving up.

...It's okay to express feelings of sadness, but I'll try not to be sad for too long.

Somehow I'm afraid for the person I'm thinking of, that would absolutely be the case.

You don't have to force yourself. These things take time. And healing.

...Is destruction and pain what that person desires?

It has nearly been two years for me. So many people come and go... and my heart breaks a little bit. I feel sad now, but I won't give up.

More or less. He's sunk so low that destroying half the world could only barely add to his list of crimes.

Don't give up. [There's a lot of strong iron in his voice at that.] For the people that carry on... that's our job, eh. To carry on and survive. And those gone wouldn't ever want us to give up.

Did he stop searching how to become happy? Why did he have to resort to finding happiness through crimes? He shouldn't have given up. [Give this girl a Choice A and Choice B... if she doesn't like it, she would try to find a hidden Choice C.]

...I won't give up in a hundred years. Or more.

I don't know. I think he was planning it all along. Or maybe he got more desperate and wanted to take whatever way he thought was fastest.

Good. Guess that makes you strong then.

Is anyone trying to stop him?

...I try to be strong.

Since the start of this, but I don't want to see anyone else fall along the way.

Sounds like you succeed to me, eh.

I wouldn't want to see that either, but something has to be done.

...mii. Thank you.

Of course. I'm not sure what kind of compromise could be reached though if allowing him to continue means more of the same, and he won't change his mind or stop though.

Heh, just a rare moment of honesty, but you're welcome.

That person must have a strong will.

It's the friends I have around me that help me become strong. Without them, I think I would have completely given in to fate.
