Even though I do check lj a few times a week and try hard to keep up with all my friends are doing, I've gotten super-lazy about posting. I use Facebook all day-every day and use Twitter for micro-blogging instead of actually sitting down and trying to think out a coherent post composed of actual, I don't know, paragraphs. I would say I'll try to do better, but to be honest I guess life is pretty low-key these days.
Juneau is finally living up to its reputation for cold weather, and we are having a few days of actual SUN! The funny thing is that when there are no clouds, it gets much-much colder; the clouds basically act as insulation and keep it comparatively warm. Tonight it was dark at 4pm, and there was a black ice warning beginning around 5pm. Jake and I walked across the street to Southeast Waffle Company and ate--shocker!--waffles. They're good waffles, and it reminds me of the long-ago days of The Coffee Bistro in Oxford, Miss.
I had a comparatively busy day today, as lame as it is probably going to read. :P I woke up to the maintenance guy replacing the light switch in the bathroom, and then Jake picked me up and took me to the cutest lunchie place in town--The Sandpiper. The burger was just ok (I find that nearly all food here needs salt to my palate), but the salad was great: European greens with shredded carrots and BEETS!! Chili-lime dressing? Yes, please. I am now scheming about how soon I can request Sandpiper again without getting a lecture about economy.
Then I took the car and ran errands. Exchanged some wedding presents at Gourmet Alaska and got a 10 inch cast iron skillet, a scoop for making cookies, and a silicone ladle for use in my Le Creuset pot. Bought Smart Wool socks--pairs 7 and 8 for those of you counting at home. :P Hit up the thrift store, but there was no bookcase for me today. Harumph. Bought a $1 book at Friends of the Library and then new Tweezerman nail nippers. A big day for our heroine, to be sure.
My more usual day is: Wake up at noonish, eat something with Jake--either here or somewhere nearby, play online, watch tv, do some dishes or cleaning, eat supper, watch tv and play online, fall asleep. Exciting, I'm not. I need a job of some description.
We are planning on going to Mississippi for a week at Christmas, so I feel like I have something to which to look forward.
