While playing around on Library Thing, it occurs to me how many books I've owned in my lifetime. The site keeps making suggestions to me of books I once owned and got rid of either because I felt like I'd outgrown them or they were ratty from too many readings. It makes me wish I'd not given away 350 children's/young adult books when I moved from Drew to Oxford. (sigh) But I gave them to the library, so hopefully some of them have been read and enjoyed by children (or grown ups) in the last 7 years.

The worrying bit: I am missing several books that I know I used to own, and I can't imagine that I would have gotten rid of them b/c I really like them. Like Moll Flanders and A Separate Peace and A Passage to India. What the hell did I do with those? I've hidden them from myself, I guess.

I also have misplaced one of my Phillipa Gregory novels: The Queen's Fool, which I've only owned since I moved to this apartment and know is not in Drew. Maybe I lent it out. Who knows?

I will admit that I have just returned from Barnes & Noble where I purchased nice hardback copies of: Pride and Prejudice (not everyone's fave, I know, but I like it), Northanger Abbey, Robinson Crusoe, and To Kill A Mockingbird and a paperback Unnatural Death. I own or once owned paperbacks of these books, and I decided to upgrade them to hardcover. I also got The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass while I was there. I liked The Golden Compass well enough, and I guess I'll go ahead and finish the series.

The Barnes & Noble on County Line Road is closing because of the new store they're opening at the new mall on Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland, so loads of books are 30% or 50% off. Two separate employees have told me that they're not moving any of the stock from this store to the new one, so I presume that more and more books will go on sale and that they discounts will get better. Anyone in Jxn who likes books might want to keep an eye open on this one.

I love books. :) If I had all the money in the world, I'd have rooms and rooms and rooms full of bookcases full of books--all hardbacks. One day, maybe. :P

books, library thing
