Its Hard to Believe.....

It's been a year since David Cook won American Idol. Or it will be, a year next week. And what a year it has been in his reign. I'm going to be sad to see him hand the reigns over to this year's winner, but I think that David has been exemplary. His debut album has gone platinum, he's still as humble as he was when he won AI - and its been a hell of a year. I love that he hasn't forgotten where he came from and is still in awe every day that he gets to play music for a living and also use his celebrity (Wrong word but first one that came to mind at the moment) to do good things - the Race for Hope, to raise money for a charity that's near and dear to his heart. He's gotten to travel the country, play for the troops in Iraq, and do what he loves ever night. He's a class act, an inspiration to so many. His music (pre and post Idol) has touched many, including me. I have no doubt that it will continue to do so. The journey is just beginning - the future is wide open and full of opportunity for David. It's been a hell of a ride - and I don't see it ending anytime soon. I still can't wrap my head around that I got to go to the AI concert last summer and MEET David. I've made some of my best friends through his music, and found new music. And for that I am forever grateful.

On Wednesday, May 20, we will crown a new Idol. He will have very large shoes to fill, but I have hope that whichever of the three remaining men win will carry on the title of Idol well that David has so eloquently held for the last year. No one will top David, and I'm not sure any future American Idol season will be able to top the magic of season 7.
