Planning Katie's baby shower is so much fun. I like it because it gives me a chance to be creative and make stuff. In fact, everything I am doing is "making" something. However, all of this would be soooooo much easier if I knew the sex of the baby. So hard to find gender neutral things. And if anything, I try to lean on the side of a boy since it seems these days more acceptable for girl's things to be more boyish than for boys things to be girlish. argh! Oh well. I can't wait to be an aunt!
The monster list:
Baby Blanket:
Doing a patchwork quilt style (earthy tones), then the back will be flannel.
Diaper Cake: I plan on doing something modern in green yellow design of some sorts. Will hopefully be a little more elaborate than this one but something similar
Example Diaper CakeWill be 4 tier, and each tier will be wrapped in either a receiving blanket or burp cloth, all of which I will be sewing. Not exactly sure what the decorations on top of it will be yet, I do have 4 large wooden cut outs that spell out B A B Y which I will be painting to go with the cake.
Washcloth Cupcakes: (I got the idea here from this example:
Washcloth CupcakeI have finally figured out the right formula for forming the cupcakes which are made of 1 baby sock and 2 waschloths. I have bought some paper to form the cupcake wrapper which will be really cute (I think) if I can get the shape right.
Washcloth Lollipops: (I got the idea here (an example):
Washcloth LollipopThese are cute too. Formed from 1 lollipop and 1 gerber baby spoon.
Washcloth Candy: example:
washcloth candyI bought some other washcloths but they have some thick edge lining on them, so I am going to try to turn them into candy pieces.
Star-Baby-Star:
Well it's a little wooden set of magnetic letters that look like train pieces kind of. Like one is a wooden star, and it has train rolling wooden wheels on it, and a magnetic side to it that hooks to the next one. So I bought the pieces * B A B Y * so it's a big star then the letters baby and another big star. And tyler and I white washed them then painted them with polka dots. I thought it could be cute on the table or in front of a vase of flowers or something.
So! Lots of things on my list to be done with by July 31st! I have an excuse to be super crafty. woohoo!
