Has using Myspace made any bands you were already into "bigger" (more popular or successful)?

My thesis is this: Myspace has sped up the whole process of the rise to fame. It's a good thing for new bands, but it's blurred the line between fan and artist. Many bands become so popular so fast that there's a backlash because people feel like "their" bands get too big which places more distance between them and the band they felt close to before they got big.
