I'm sure some of you know that I have been freaking out about the future lately. I'm applying to grad schools and thinking about life after graduation, and it really bothers me that I don't know where I will be or what I will be doing six months from now.
Apparently Daddy noticed my stress, and said not to worry about anything, because I can't control the future, I can only control right now. Then he handed me a "hermit of the hills" story by Leo Tolstoy that really emphasized his point.
"Remember that there is only one important time and it is Now. The present moment is the only time over which we have dominion. The most important person is always the person with whom you are, who is right before you, for who knows if you will have dealings with any other person in the future. The most important pursuit is making that person, the one standing at your side, happy, for that alone is the pursuit of life."
So yay for Tolstoy, Daddy, and Yoda for managing to calm me down for now.
