Oorah!

So I had an AMAZING trip last weekend. (Even if it did take me a week to find time to update about it.) I drove up to my Grandpa's house after I FINALLY finished my summer school work. By the way, I got A's in BOTH CLASSES. A's! This is the first semester in which I haven't received an A-. I am so proud of myself. Yay! Back to my trip, tho. Grandpa and I woke up in the wee hours of the morning and ate b-fast at Waffle House, then I began my 5-6 hour trek from his house to the Marine Core Air Station at which Dustin is stationed. I got to drive on State Roads thru all kinds of cute little towns with historical artifacts like museums and plantations and bed-and-breakfasts in old houses. I drove thru a town called Turkey that has a bird conservatory.

When I was almost there, Dustin called me and said to meet him on base. He said there would be gate guards with guns that would check my license and registration and search my car. When I got to the gate and into the visitors lane, they guard just smiled at me. I kind of waited to see what he was going to do, but he just smiled at me, so I just kept driving! Dustin couldn't believe I got right on base without being stopped! My little cousin Matthew said "He must have thought you were really pretty and that's why he didn't stop you." Yay for cute little cousins.

I met some of Dustin's friends. Corey and his roommate Chris, and Tony. Dustin and Corey and I hung out all day Friday. The rest of them all hung out on Saturday. The whole group of us went to the beach with a girl named Lori. Dustin and Cory and Chris took turns picking us up and throwing us into the ocean. I hadn't actually gone in the ocean past my knees in years. The water there was SO NICE, though, and I had lots of fun. One other friend of theirs I met was going to leave for Iraq on Sunday. I hope he is doing ok. I would never go, but then again, that's why I would never join a military establishment.

Sunday I had to leave my newfound Marine buddies and go back to Grandpa's house for his wedding to May. I won't bog yall down with details, but I will say that she seems nice enough, but her family seems a bit odd. One of her grandsons, who was probably between the ages of 9 and 11, took my hat and tried to rip it in half. I was already upset, because last time I'd been in that church was for Granny's memorial service, and I got SO MAD at this boy. I chased him through the church unil I got my hat back, and then I almost hit him, and then I threatened to break his nose if he came near me again. What a way to end a wedding reception, huh? Good thing Grandpa and May had already driven away to their honeymoon. But honestly, it was as if that kid (and his brother) had never been in a church before. They didn't know how to act! And their dad just stood around in shadowing corners trying to be invisible. Well, whatever. I shan't talk about it more.

Now I have another trip to look forward to next weekend. I'm going on a retreat to learn more about God. Hopefully it will be as fun as my last trip. :)
