100 Fic Prompt Table It's all about perception.
That's why Harry likes Luna, likes her in a much different way than Hermione and maybe even a little bit more than Ginny.
She sees things, not just thestrals but everything, in a completely dissimilar way from how everyone else does. Hermione has always seemed to see everything in factual ways influenced by emotions, to make everything fit and make sense and feel so strongly about it all while she does makes sense of it. Ginny has always seemed to see things at face-value, to accept what simply is without changing it and go on despite that.
Luna, though... Luna sees beyond everything. Luna sees herself different than everyone else sees her and doesn't seem to care if people do think her odd or downright mad, because that's not how she sees herself at all. If he could see himself the same way, to see an image of himself not colored by the opinions of others, maybe things would be a bit easier at times and maybe he could just do what feels right without worrying how everyone might see it. But Luna sees that image of him, somehow, and she makes him desperately want to see it too.
Luna sees things that aren't there, like Nargles. She believes in things that aren't there, like Crumpled-horn Snorkacks. Or maybe, just maybe, she just believes in things that no one else can and sees what no one else will.
