My Christmas haul this year was pretty meager, but I got some good stuff (a lot of it was Doctor Who-related):
- The War Games (the final Second Doctor story)
- Lost in Time (the majority of the remaining episodes from partially-junked First and Second Doctor serials)
- Ponyo
- Adobe Premiere Elements
- A Dalek
- The Eleventh Doctor's TARDIS
- A Flip HD camera
- A black fleece sweater
Winter Game at Wayfinder was supposed to be my birthday present (which feels like cheating because I was hired as an SIT there anyway), but the fucking blizzard knocked out nearly every mode of transportation that could've gotten me to Port Authority Bus Terminal.
Seriously.
And now for the inevitable:
1. What did you do in 2010 that you’d never done before?
I submitted things to a fanzine, ran an Intro-level game at Wayfinder, wrote a one-act play, made a book trailer, and was a stagehand at a dance concert, amongst other things I'm sure I'm forgetting.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't remember if I made any.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Thankfully no (unless Kayla's nephew was born more recently than I remember).
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Even more thankfully no.
5. What countries did you visit?
I actually stayed stateside this year.
6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
A romantic interest that actually leads to something.
7. What dates from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
August 23rd, the day I REALLY HOPED classes at Wooster were not resuming. If they did, I wouldn't have been able to run The Pygmalion Dollhouse this past summer because I would've been at school during Unison III.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I don't feel like this was a big year for achievement, although I did make the Dean's List at Wooster (I barely make a deal out of it because I'd never heard of the Dean's List before I was told I was on it).
OH WAIT. I GOT PAID FOR DOING WAYFINDER. BECAUSE I WAS FINALLY STAFF FOR THE FIRST TIME. FINALLY. STAFF.
9. What was your biggest failure?
I still don't have a job and my money's running thin.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
No injuries, but I did get a stomach virus during Finals week of spring semester, along with half-a-dozen mini-colds at various times of the year.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Timewyrm: Genesys, the first book in Doctor Who's New Adventures series. The best thing not because I've read it and thought it was amazing (haven't read it yet, sadly), but because I found it in the 48-cent bin at Strand. It was one of those "OMFG TREASURE!!!" moments that can only happen in used bookstores.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Malcolm, for sitting down and telling me off calmly and politely; Ryan/Erik/Kat, for watching Doctor Who with me instead of going out and getting high; George, for being overall amazing and for being The Sweet Awesome Guy who saw that I was upset about something at the Fall Dance Concert and hugged me and told me to call him if I needed anything when my anxiety flared up; and of course all my watchers over at
classicwhoblog for being a polite and supportive bunch.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Adric-haters, although since this is a thing in the Doctor Who fandom that predates me by a decade, I really shouldn't be complaining about it. But I still appreciate Adric-love (and constructive criticism) whenever I see it.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Probably snacks/food.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
DOCTOR WHO SEASON 5.
16. What song will always remind you of 2010?
Not many, but probably All About Us by t.A.T.u or Lepcis Magna by E.S. Posthumous.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
(a) happier or sadder? Tough to say. Probably sadder because my anxiety issues came back in full swing this past semester. Also, I was supposed to be at Winter Game right now.
(b) thinner or fatter? About the same, I think.
(c) richer or poorer? Poorer.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Job-hunting and READING.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Fudging around on the internet when I could be doing something productive.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
Opened presents with the 'rents, played the Flash game of The Room, justifiably stressed about the weather, and had a nice dinner of Cornish hen and butternut squash.
21. Did you fall in love in 2010?
This has been another year of crushes.
22. What was your favorite TV program?
Doctor Who. It's My Thing right now.
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
I have even more disrespect for Bill O'Reilly than I did before. I guess that counts.
24. What was the best book you read?
The Code of the Woosters was quite good, and I ADORED Chicks Dig Time Lords.
25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Murray Gold (the current Doctor Who composer).
26. What did you want and get?
A Staff position at Wayfinder.
27. What did you want and not get?
A good grade on my 10-minute play (although I did deserve that C).
28. What was your favourite film of this year?
Didn't see much this year...although Scott Pilgrim was TREMENDOUS fun and Part 1 of The Deathly Hallows was pretty solid too.
29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 19 and I went to see The Princess and the Frog with a couple gal-pals before going out to a lovely Japanese restaurant with my folks.
30. What one thing made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Finding a girl-friend at Wooster who I can stay up until 3 AM with just geeking out.
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
I think I made less use of that tank-top/button-down combo I liked from last year.
32. What kept you sane?
That's a very good question. Sometimes Doctor Who, but sometimes it felt like it was causing the insanity.
33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
David Tennant and Matt Smith.
34. What political issue stirred you the most?
Whatever's going down there in the Koreas.
35. Who did you miss?
My Millermates this past semester (mainly living with them. I see them around campus and at dinner a lot).
36. Who was the best new person you met?
KELLEY (the aforementioned nerd-friend)
37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010.
Just telling yourself you're going to do it won't make it happen. You need to actually do it.
38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Iiiiiiit's nooooooooot easy having yourself a good time.
