30 Days of Television: Day 13

Jun 19, 2010 21:44

Today I realized something that annoyed me: Doctor Who fans who have declared that the Russell T. Davies era sucked just because Steven Moffat is doing it better. As derooftrouser said in The 45 Deaths of Doctor Who: "2007 - For the first time ever, the show is the most watched of the week. It is also the second-highest rated program of the year and the Audience Appreciation index is 86." So clearly RTD was doing something right.

Okay, fannish rant over. I don't usually complain about complaining people, but I really felt this needed saying.

Anyway...

Favorite childhood show: Rugrats

Once again, YouTube fails me. But everyone should know this show already, so it's not as big a deal.

This is one of those shows that, if you were a kid in the '90s, you watched this.

You know, in retrospect, I'm honestly not completely sure why I loved this show. Actually, when I think about it, I technically should've hated it because so many of the plots ran on prolonged misinformation (you know, like when a character is deliberately given the wrong facts and spends the rest of the episode believing them and acting on them at the expense of others). Something about plots like those drive me up the wall. Oh, the author-insert fanfics I could've written about me just being there to correct pretty much every little problem. Susie was my favorite character for a reason.

Although I DO have to give the two movies credit for being both remarkably well done AND several shades darker. I mean, you've got the first one where, instead of the babies going on one of their usual imaginary adventures, they are actually stranded out in the middle of a national park. Then you had Rugrats in Paris with dealt with memories of parental death and remarriage. And yes, I admit that I started tearing up during "I Want a Mom That Will Last Forever."

Also, that fight from the first movie where Spike tries to protect them from the wolf.

"Mr. Lizard...we wish we could go h-...we wish we had our doggie back." ;_;
