In Which Emmy is Distraught

Mar 25, 2010 13:00

She had no idea how much time had passed since she first arrived back in the City, pain still throbbing in her chest. She had no idea who all was still left, if the threat had passed, or even if her death had gone noticed. All Emmy knew was that she still hurt, and tears hadn't stopped rolling down her cheeks since she left Shinju...gods knew how ( Read more... )

With the threat of the homunculi gone, Kresnik decided that resuming his normal objective will be the best choice as of now. He walked through the plaza and suddenly stopped, spotting a rather familiar blond laying on the ground. He frowned lightly before walking towards her.

"Emeraude."

She turned slowly to glance up to him, green eyes blank as she looked him over; she gave no reaction that she even saw him, short of the acknowledgement that she heard him. After a moment of noting exactly who it was, Emmy simply rolled her head back skyward, focusing on the blue sky high above her.

Kresnik noted her rather blank eyes, but didn't comment about them. For a person who just returned, she seemed rather....dead.

"....you and Shinju now have returned." He looked at her bruising and started to kneel down by her. "....I'll heal you."

She made no move to do anything as he knelt beside her, simply letting her arms out slightly so he could better heal the marks. Her mouth opened briefly, floundering as if she had something to say to the comment about Shinju and herself, but closed it soon after, giving a sound like a sob combined with a sigh.

He didn't say anything to her small sob, only closing his eyes briefly before lowering his hands in order to start healing her.

"........."

She stayed quiet for a few moments, unmoving beneath his hands; as she felt the bruises slowly dissipate from her skin, though she still knew their exact locations - some consequence of the City, she knew by now - Emmy finally opened her mouth again.

"Why are you doing this?"

He glanced at her when she suddenly spoke, but the soldier still continued to heal her wounds.

"...As a commander, it's part of my duty to heal the injured."

She looked to the other side, letting him continue, though her mood had clearly disintegrated fully. She said nothing for a long moment before finally giving him a crisp reply, though the normally harsh tone paled in comparison to her usual snap.

"Of course. You couldn't care less otherwise."

He didn't say anything for a while, even when she gave her snappish reply.

"...Your bruises are fully healed now." Kresnik removed his hands before slowly standing up.

His reply gave her no reason to believe her statement was wrong; she said nothing as he rose back up, seemingly leaving her. Just like everyone did.

What happened to the way things were before? Maybe she would have been better off with Kaito. Maybe none of this would have happened.

Emmy tried to force back the crack in her voice as another soft sob escaped her, her arms suddenly wrapping around her body as she curled into a tight ball. As if curling up would make everything go away, or go back to the way things were.

He didn't leave yet, a small frown developing on his face as he watched Emeraude curl into a small ball. Why is she affected like this? From his prior knowledge, she has been killed before.

"...You're alive, Emeraude." He spoke somewhat blandly. "The City brought you back."

Why couldn't he realise that that wasn't the problem? Another sob wracked her body, and she curled tighter for a moment before forcing herself to speak - he had to understand.

"I wish it hadn't!"

...She wished that the City didn't revive her? How did she come to that illogical reasoning?

"...Don't be ridiculous." His tone was somewhat less harsh than normal. "You'll be abandoning your duties if you purposely wished to be dead."

"Wh-what duties..? It's not like I'm doing any good here, or anywhere. I...was supposed to lead everyone when that...vampyrism struck..." Emmy paused, turning slightly to glance up to him, eyes wet and red from crying. "But what good did it do?"

"Duties back at your world." He looked down at her, noting her red and wet eyes. ".....get up." Kresnik offered his hand down to her.
