I recently came across a series of books by Robert Kiyosaki that starts with one titled, "Rich Dad, Poor Dad." The premise of his books is that Kiyosaki grew up with two dads, one rich, and one poor ( Read more... )

Emily, what makes you say there isn't enough out there to help people who never had a rich dad? What is it that non-rich-dad people need? A check written out to "cash" so we have that headstart, or the information on how to succeed for ourselves? The information's out there. And in some cases, for some purposes, the funding is out there, too.

Of course you can't change where you came from, but you can always change where you're going. There's always a lot to learn from where you've been. The past is a fact, but the future is up for discussion.

There are a lot of books out there for people who want to learn how to make things better for themselves. It's a matter of picking up a library card, or sitting down at a computer, and reading. In no way am I trying to say it's easy, but I am saying that it's possible. Our friend the graveyard-shift-diner-waitress isn't having such an easy time with the way things are right now. Why not take a challenge to sit down and figure out a plan? (I've decided to name her Fanny. I hope Denise doesn't mind.)

And maybe it's that people don't know those types of resources are out there. I was looking for one of Suze Orman's books on Amazon, and had my eyes opened to an entire genre I had no idea existed. (I highly recommend "The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous, and Broke")

I found the genre, and I'm recommending titles! READ! Anything is possible!

I too own the book by Suze Orman. And totally support Anegla's recomendation. The book really digs into a lot of topics that most of us are uneducated on such as how to improve credit scores, helpful career points, saving and investing, what happens to debt when a family memeber passes and much more.
