Well, I knew I'd be hurting for a camera over Christmas break, and I am already. It's amazing how productive today was compared with the semester, and I even took a nap in the middle!
Today my parents went out and got the Family Christmas Tree. It's become rather legendary, actually. We have a cathedral ceiling in our living room 10' 4". Each year we cut a white pine at least that tall. This year's is bigger than ever, with at least a 30' circumference. No kidding, there's a foot-wide passage way between it and the wall. Amusing, actually: we have new neighbors on both sides of us, and one of them came over when he saw the monster sticking out of my dad's truck bed. He was very nice and helped us put it up even, but he still just couldn't stop gaping! ;)
Last night I picked up yarn for the
Snowbabies hat, and this morning I finished it. I used
Bernat Denimstyle in canvas color, and altered the pattern to fit a baby. I really liked the yarn; it's very soft, has a nice, subtle texture, and the color is lovely and warm. The hat's blocking now; I'm searching
Knitting Pattern Central for mittens to go with it. Definitely a keeper pattern!
While I was looking there, I stumbled upon these
adorable mittens! I'd love to make some from scratch, but I think for this year I'm going to buy some pre-made mittens and decorate them in felt for the kids I babysit for. Not just bugs either, I'm picturing horses (with a fringe mane), and elephants, and dragons . . . I'll try to keep you updated on that!
And last but not least: Knitty.com has a great article on
knitting vintage patterns. I know
elegant_musings has been posting about these lately, and I have a stash underneath my bed! I like their suggestion about using sock yarn. Someday . . .
(I don't use this userpic at all enough. It makes me smile so . . .)
