Really truly! My - what a crazy couple weeks. And another crazy weekend ahead! But you really don't need to know about that . . . This post is going to be an entirely eclectic collection of all the things I've been wanting to say these last two weeks, mostly about fashion. So fasten your seatbelts, and we're off !
Fashion week is long gone, but as usual I loved the
Michael Kors collection. Neutrals accented by pink, fluid, ballet-like lines, with a couple tailored pieces thrown in. And WIDE BELTS! Displayed a nicer balance of volumes, I think, than most collections; more flattering to the average woman. With a few exceptions, I loved just about every outfit from this show. I was pleasantly surprised by Vera Wang's collection; I really love the way she used volume in her pieces. Diane von Fustenburg definitely hit the spring note. Other collections were nice, but obviously they didn't stick in my memory!
I enjoyed the Kors collection so much that I even wore a Kors-inspired outfit last weekend. Black scoop-necked sweater with long sleeves, a wide Nine West burgundy belt, and knee-length brown skirt I made last year. Very, very fun to wear. The belt I found at TJ Maxx last week for $12; it's 2 1/2" wide suede, overcast around the edges with a ribbon of patent leather. Already I can tell it's my accessory of the season!
Also, I did some thrift store shopping a couple weeks ago. I didn't find a lot, but struck it gold with a mod 1960s wool shift in charcoal grey. It is sooo cute! The dress is cut pretty much like a regular shift, so it fits pretty close in the back, but the front features two wide pleats extending from the waist and topped by two large (2") buttons. The pleats give the front a nice A-line look, while making it easier to walk and sit in. The buttons are the same color grey as the dress, but shaped like roses. It's more Jackie-O than Audrey, but oh-so me at the same time. And at $4.62, a steal. I've worn it once already, but no pictures yet! I'll try to get some up asap. I also found some black pointed pumps at the free thrift store on my campus - a little small, but the price was right!
I've been knitting up the cabled tote, so actually the knitted part is done. Right now the pieces are sitting in my basement blocking; once that's done I'll be almost finished! This project went so well I'm considering doing lots more, but more on that later . . .
HotPatterns.com has some new collections up. Aside from their Artful Dodger line that I already love, the new
Deco Vibe line may be my favorite thus far. I mean, how can you go wrong with a
Kors-inspired dress? I've never bought from this company before, but I really should. I think I've admired every pants pattern they've ever put out!
That's it for now! I get to spend 7 hours in the costume shop today for orientation, whoopee. Actually, I do look forward to getting a project on hand; I'm just dreading the long orientation process since *I already know how to sew*! I really enjoy all the people I'll be working with though, so it shouldn't be so bad!
