happiness is still birmingham in the rain

We arrived late into Birmingham since the first train was cancelled, then we had to figure out getting to the hotel which left us with precious little time for making a dent in the big bottle of vodka from Spain, meaning I carried it in my backpack for the sake of one shot each mixed with coke from the vending machine in reception. Oh well. I cannot BELIEVE how busy everywhere was, I've not been out on the gay scene there on a weekend in so long, but it was bloody fantastic, we went to Missing, The Fox, Angels, Route Two and Nightingale (which was £8 to get in ffs but well worth it) We met some lovely people from Telford, I saw one of Mandy's friends which was nice, we danced lots, Tom was a bit drunk but I wasn't (grr! And I'd specially set it aside as a Night Of Drinking!) we spent a LOT of money, I ate half a cheese baguette and some chocolate for dinner (the chocolate preceding the baguette of course), I discovered the joys of the techno night on the top floor of the Nightingale (H.O.M) and although neither of us pulled, I did stalk a gorgeous woman in pinstripe for a bit. She's exactly my type, meaning thin, tanned, older than me, with shortish dark hair and lots of style (not being too specific of course!) but by sticking her tongue down an ugly man's throat I almost gave up hope, but gave up entirely when her response to me saying "you look gorgeous, I love your outfit!" was to smile, say thanks and walk away. Well, I tried.

We got back to the hotel at around 5am, read free magazines for a bit, then slept, but woke up early enough today to actually do things. We ate at some shopping centre food court which was surprisingly nice, had a relaxed Sunday morning drink in Missing, walked a lot, went to the famous gay sex shop Clone Zone (I bought On Our Backs for £4.50!) went round the Bullring, ate Millies Cookies, and got the train back via Derby, where I took a photo of a poster reading "The History Of The Baguette". And it was raining, but still a fucking wonderful 24 hours.
