The anonymity was lifted after midnight. ...That was the first time it happened. I suppose a change could be good. I predicted a plot twist.

Revealing curses yesterday as well. Was I right about the theme? Those affected couldn't hide their actions or inner thoughts of the moment. What would be next? Another of those curses we speak out our mind ( Read more... )

I think I'm rather developing a preference for the ones where the princess rescues the prince, instead of the other way around.

Sometimes the best story is when both need to cooperate.

I wrote one like that once, as a gift for a friend. I think you're right that those are the best of all, though, since it keeps them both on equal footing, rather than making one better off than the other.

I have one. The Princess saves the Prince from a curse in exchange of her life. Then the Prince rescues her from the clutches of a monster risking his.

In the end both defeat the demon king together.

A monster raven, wasn't it?

Mm, I like that one. And I'm glad they managed to rescue each other.

Even those kind of stories don't seem to have a happy ending. It keeps slipping away...

Perhaps it's just that the stories don't end as easily as that, and there are still other adventures for the Princess and Prince to embark on.

Sometimes they could get tired about getting into new adventures. There's enough excitement for a lifetime to them.

Everyone does, sooner or later, I think. But if they didn't keep having those adventures, I think we'd all miss out on a lot of lovely stories.

Most stories end where they should end. What else is to tell after a "happily ever after"? Or after the tragic demise of the protagonists?

That's just it, I think. The stories end because they have to end somewhere, and the princes and princesses do live happily, but it's just not "ever after" because while their story may be done, their lives aren't. Their lives are filled with stories upon stories upon stories, and when each story is over, they do live happily--until the next one starts.

I wish I could make it so that everyone lived happily ever after, the way they do in the stories. But perhaps for us, it's enough that we just live happily in the time between one story and the next.

But it's just not possible. No good story would have a saccharine plot of pure happiness.

No...likely not, no. It may be nice to dream about, but it's not very likely to occur, I'm afraid.
