I'm a college graduate. I don't think I can even begin to tell you how weird that still sounds to me. Last Saturday (May 1) I walked across the stage, without falling,(although my family and friends will say otherwise) and talked through all of the ceremony...it seems like some things haven't changed this high school. Sitting there with my friends who helped me through the past four years in my major was kinda surreal. College is over. We don't have any more stupid assignments to complain about, or teacher look-a-likes for Dolly Parton or Roseanne Barr, no more internship blowouts to vent. This has been the last two years of my life. This was in the back of my mind while we made fun of the speaker and the annoying students from our classes. So when all was said and done, and I found my family, Mom, Dad, Grandparents, and Tracy and Jenny, we took a whole lotta pictures. However, it was after the 30 minute photo session and dinner that Mom asked me how many pictures were on the roll of film in the camera. When I replied, I don't know, whatever you put in, I heard my mom drop the "F-bomb" for the second time in my life. So after we finished dinner, we went back to campus and took pictures by the reflection pond. I couldn't help but laugh.
Later on that night, there was a party at the Miller Mansion. I was all excited about going and celebrating the "Graduation/Move-In/We're throwing a party for the hell of it party"...I mean really, who wouldn't want to celebrate one of those?! It was an interesting party, full of little high school girls who thought it was 50 degrees out and wore parka boots, one who was friendly with the Easter Bunny, and some others with fashion problems as well. Dancing with Thomas to show tunes was perhaps the highlight of the night. After awhile, I was tired and couldn't breathe, so I wanted to get home. Drama later, I ended up going home myself.
Meeting my parents and grandparents at 7am for breakfast is not exactly what I wanted to do, but I'm glad I went. I love my family so much, and it was great spending the extra time with them. My gradparents left from the hotel to drive back up to Pittsburgh. By the time everyone left, I was really sick, and honestly not breathe. I stayed in bed for the rest of the day.
On Monday night, I went to a intern appreciation night where a ton of principals were to try and net work. Well, even though I was sick, I must have been pretty-on because I ended up getting an interview with a school in Winter Park. On Wednesday morning, I met at Killarny Elementary and had my first real interview. I was incrediably nervous, but I must have done something right because she was impressed. She said that I would fit in very well at the shool and while she couldn't offer me a position until the hiring freeze was off she couldn't wait for the principal to meet me and talk about next year further. So, call my crazy, but I take that as a good sign. Everyone that I've talked to abotu Killarny and from what I've read about the school, it is an exceptional school. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed until I know more about the postion.
Tuesday, the big major event was me going to the doctors and finding out what was wrong with me. Woo-Hoo. Two ear infections, two sinus infections, and tonsillitis later, I'm on medicine to try and get better. Of course, being the stupid person that I am, I went to trivia were we won and just had fun.
Thursday was the last FRIENDS ever. While I use to be hooked on that show back in the day, I honestly hadn't watched it since freshman year of college. I didn't think the ending was all that interesting. You knew that Rachel and Ross were going to end up together, but thats just me. When Jenny and I were talking about the fact that its been on the air for 10 years, I was 11 years old when I first watched that show. How bizarre is that? Sixth grade...we use to talk about the show every Friday at lunch. Back than we still had the girl/guy table and it was only boy/girl when someone had a "boyfriend". Ft. Myers Middle School...wow, talk about blast from the past. Such an interesting time for any kid. Thinking back makes me wonder why I wanted to teach middle school in the first place! Oh well...until next time.
