I just received an email from Real Simple magazine, titled "6 Reasons Your Home is Cluttered". My first thought on seeing the headline was "I only need one reason: I'm Messy. Duh!"
I'm a pile-er. I always have been, much to my mother's dismay. When I upgraded to a full size bed somewhere around 12 years old, I still only slept on half of it - clean or dirty laundry was stacked or tossed, respectively, on the other half. Piles of books, piles of papers, piles of clothes, piles of projects, piles of shoes (that one might be my worst), and sometimes piles of just plain STUFF.
I've grown out of a lot of it. I no longer pile clothes on the bed, I don't have homework that stacks up on my desk, and I have a shoe rack that keeps at least half of my shoes organized. But what's left is still mostly organized chaos. It's pretty rare that I can't find any particular item within a couple minutes. I have a pretty good idea of what's in each pile, and if it's not in this pile then I'm fairly certain it's in that pile.
I still can't figure out how the good sized hunk of GOOD parmesan cheese disappeared out of my fridge as of last night though. Fairly certain I didn't toss that one in a pile in some other room of the apartment.
