I never heard back from NeuroFocus about the job I applied for (even though they seemed really optimistic and encouraging when I applied... never trust what people say about your hireability during a job interview) but that's fine by me because I got the job at the Freeman lab at UC Berkeley! Here is the breakdown of what that means: + I will be working 2 days a week in Davis through the end of November and 3 days in Berkeley, and I'll be full-time at Berkeley in December. + This lab is very prolific and prestegious + My new prof has really high expectations of me as a researcher and wants to get me lined up to do big amazing things - I am INCREDIBLY wary of high expectations these days, so I'm a bit anxious over it + The people who have previously trained under Prof. BigShot are big names in the field right now + Prof. BigShot is really nice - I've been warned twice by colleagues about Prof. BigShot being TOO nice, ifyaknowwhaddamean - More animal experiments, which I was hoping to avoid but I think I need a master's in math or something before I can get paid to do pure data analysis without getting my hands (and conscience) dirty. + Higher pay + I get to finally go home (by which I mean UC Berkeley)
I found a series of lumps on my neck/head this week, and that combined with severe fatigue and widespead+localized pain (plus a concerned boyfriend) prompted me to go to the doctor to get it checked out. There are a few possibilities for what's going on:
An infection that is irritating lymph nodes
An infection that is irritating my lymph nodes plus a thyroid imbalance (I'm already taking treatment for an underactive thyroid)
Something worse.
I had a set of blood tests done this morning and I'm getting the lumps ultrasounded this afternoon. If those tests are inconclusive, I have to get it biopsied to make sure it's not something really bad. I'm sure it's something simple, but I'm in pain and that makes me pretty pessimistic and therefore I am worried.
I finished my mix CD and it is awesome. Who wants a copy?
I'm crossing my fingers about getting an audition for the Christmas Revels, which are awesome.
