Although this is merely me venting spelling peeves, it riffs from Polliticks, so I'm placing it
While as a Republican, I'm always delighted to see John Kerry back in the news cycle, it drives me crazy that apparently nobody can spell "Genghis" (as in "[American soldiers] razed villages in a fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan") correctly. Every time I see someone type "Ghengis" it's like biting down on a piece of chicken bone. It's not like there's a shortage of creative ways to spell it correctly, either -- "Chinggis" seems to be favored amongst the current pretentiati, although the Mongols currently spell it with only the one g, "Chingis," and there was a spate of "Jenghiz" when I was younger, while I give total props to the Turcified "Cengiz." I have to admit that the Pinyin "Chengjisihan" looks like someone is just being silly, though.
And while I'm at it, it's "Gandhi." Spelling it "Ghandi" is just asking for a khaki-clad beef-eater to whack your teeth down your throat with his knobkerrie.
Now I feel better.
