HappyNewYear to All

Dec 31, 2004 18:00

Six hours left to go from this time zone. And can I just say THANK GODS 2004 is over. 2005 is going to be my year . . .

I was going to post three elaborate essays - On how an 88-year-old woman changed my life last week. On the history of women's struggle to gain recognition in the visual arts. And what I expect may be controversial . . . On Mother Nature and Human Suffering (dedicated to Susan Sontag).

Unfortunately, I probably won't have a computer for at least a week. And I've only got about five minutes left on this one before I rush off to consume large quantities of champagne at a New Year's Masquerade Party thrown by our friends Alan and Gene (visiting from Seattle).

So I'll say it now - Happy New Year to everyone. I survived 2004. We all survived 2004. May 2005 be productive, healthy, creative, inspiring, passionate, adventurous, meaningful, and generally wonderful for everyone. Why not begin by treating yourself to a little something nice? Or doing something you've always wanted to do? Or creating something new? Just an idea . . .

And since I probably won't be near a computer until after the fact - January 2nd is the five-year anniversary of Wildstar and I. Five years ago Sunday a gorgeous, dark-haired artist with piercing eyes and a wicked grin responded to my embarassingly elitist pick-up line "Who wrote Ulysses?" with "It was James Joyce. Who wrote The Theatre and Its Double? Who wrote The Thief's Journal? And what do I get for answering correctly?" And so began the romantic saga of Ryan and Ryan . . .
