All of you Galaxies players out there, you have exactly 3 hours and 21 minutes until it all goes down. At midnight central time, all of the servers are coming down for Publish 25 which will be the massively hyped but extremely unwelcomed New Game Experience. Estimated downtime is approximately 17 hours, but will probably be a bit less.
Essentially, they take a nice MMORPG, granted it has a few bugs here and there, and turn it into a CONSOLE GAME! It's been dumbed down to the point that a PS3 or XBox360 could run it. Now, I've played the new game in its new form on the Testcenter, and it's not too shabby. I actually don't mind the changes, what I mind (along with everyone else) is the manner in which the change is happening. See, Sony Online (the wonderful people that brought us Evercrack) had been saying for months that profession revamps were coming and had just released a new 30 dollar expansion. Two days later, the announcement hits for this massive game change. Now, you know as well as I that this game change has to have been in the works for MONTHS rather than the days that it's been since it was announced, and it goes live in 3 hours. That's just flat out deception on the part of the developers, and I'm sure the subscription metrics are showing the displeasure with it.
So what am I to do with myself tomorrow while the patch goes in and the servers are down? It's estimated to come back up right around the time that I have to stop playing for the day because Lori comes home and it's time to eat. Food is more important than video games. Guess I could play KOTOR or Burnout or something.... or probably hang out on IMs all day. Who knows. Maybe I'll get lucky and when I crawl out of bed around 1PM tomorrow it'll be live and the servers will be back up. Not even all the servers, just as long as Valcyn is back up. we shall see.
I'm still awaiting the launch of Dark and Light, that one looks like it'll be uber-fun. No announcements yet of an actual release date though, all they'll say is "november 2005." I hate being kept in suspense.
