I love essaying yay.
Basically: How being on the island has affected my characters. This is a huge work in progress and I will be continuously adding things to this as more time goes by. Credit for the table goes to crimson_rakuna. If these eventually get super long I may move them to their own separate entries, but for now they're all going to be in just one to save space.

RIKU ⇒ KINGDOM HEARTS

Considering that he's been around the longest, Riku has been through the most changes. He has long accepted the fact that his friends have forgiven him and will love him no matter what, so he doesn't really worry about that anymore. He still regrets what he has done, of course, but he doesn't want to live in the past. On the island, he focuses on the here and now which is something he... really didn't do much. It was all either about what he's done or what his future could be like.
Then there's the whole friend thing. Back home, it was always Sora who had all the relationships with other people. Really, one of the main reasons he even joined Maleficent was because Sora made new friends. Yeah, he made new relationships (King Mickey, Naminé, etc.) but it really wasn't until island when he finally began making a lot of them. His bonds with people like Laharl, Chii, Misuzu, etc. are all very important to him and-- he's actually a tad bit possessive over them, but it's nowhere near the point of how he was in KH1. It's more of a him acting in the role of an older brother than being insanely jealous like he was before.
He has gained back some of that cockiness from KH1 that he lost in KH2, but like the possessiveness, it's still nowhere near how he once was. It mostly shows up when he's talking to Laharl or teasing Sora, really.

MIKURU ASAHINA ⇒ THE MELANCHOLY OF HARUHI SUZUMIYA
'til your frightened eyes do close
The most obvious thing comes first: Mikuru isn't as wimpy as she once was. Yes, she still gets scared easily. And yes, it still doesn't take much to make her cry. But after having some of your closest friends be vampires and witches, things like that don't really scare you as much as they did before. If anything, she's probably too comfortable with vampires now, which Yuki repeatedly warns her against.
She also learned not to depend on Kyon so much. Back home, he was the SOS member she would always go to when she had a problem. Over time, this shifted more towards Yuki since the two have been on the island the longest out of the group and have had plenty of times to bond. Yeah, she used to really like Kyon. Now? There is still a bit of a crush, but it's nowhere near as strong as it once was after Sena. And even more because of Sena, she wants to try not to be as much of a damsel in distress as she usually is. She's aware that there's little she can do to fix her clumsiness or other features, but hey, she can try.
She also sort of resents being called stupid or slow. Which happens frequently with Yuki, to be honest.

She really hasn't been on the island to cause any major changes as of yet. The main thing for her is trying to handle the fact that she's not the strongest anymore. Medaka spent her entire life basically being the person who can handle any problem and take down anyone; the island is a different story. There are people who are way more powerful than her, with ideas and pasts that she never really imagined. So because of this, it's a lot easier to see a different range of emotions out of her.
