[There is a rustle of paper, as Lelouch can be heard murmuring softly to himself.] "Flattery will go far tonight."  Hm.  A little generic, but it holds a grain of truth I suppose...oh, wait, I was supposed to introduce myself, not read this aloud.  Even if everyone seems to enjoy doing that lately.

[A few seconds of silence, and then, Lelouch ( Read more... )

Welcome aboard, Sub Lieutenant.

... Truffles? This wouldn't happen to be the stash of truffles Bonnefoy was complaining about being stolen, would it?

Thank you. And you are?

I'm...not really sure. However, I didn't steal them, that's for sure. Although, I believe there should still some truffles left back in the kitchen - at least, I think there is. I didn't really check to see how many there were, but this, ah, Bonnefoy...the other cook, presumably? He can always buy more. Perhaps once we reach Bellcius, or wherever it is that we're going.

Lt. Commander Kamotaro Itou. I'm a navigator. Pleased to meet you.

Yes, the other cook. I know not of the matters in the kitchen, or your arrangements with him. Perhaps you can check his entry about the truffles out. He sounded very upset.

Likewise, Lieutenant Commander.

[A chuckle nearly slips out, but he quickly covers this with a cough. His voice ends up emerging just the slightest bit strained.] ...I see. Well, I wouldn't worry about it. It's just a...trivial matter of truffles, after all.

Ah, I was hardly concerned about the truffles. My concern was that we had a thief in the ship. But if it was just an accident, then there's nothing to worry about.

Indeed. Although, if there was a thief, I would hardly believe that it would be that critical of an issue. If all he wanted was a mushroom or some morsel of food, then you'd have the perfect trap set up right there.

It's not, but a worrisome thing nonetheless. The next thing that could disappear are guns and weapons.

Ah, you do have a point. Although, I'd worry less about the weapons, and more about the crew members. As long as there are many of us, each capable of finding a weapon, this thief would barely prove a challenge against us. On the other hand, if this thief decided to hold, say, our captain ransom...well, that'd probably turn out to be quite a hassle, ultimately.

Of course, kidnapping can be considered a different matter, but you can never know. First a mushroom, and then a member of the crew. Hypothetically, of course.

... Ah, you don't have to worry about anyone kidnapping the captain. He would gut and pulverize the man and think no more about it.

As for stealing and/or kidnapping a member of the crew, we do have some weaker crew mates aboard. It is not as unlikely as you think, and I prefer keeping safe.

Heh, I suppose I ought to feel sorry for the thief then...but, on the other end, it would also be his fault. He didn't study his victim and didn't realize an attempt at kidnap would lead to his own demise.

Oh, of course. Although, I can't imagine what someone could gain from taking one of the weaker crew members captive. Particularly since I doubt that the captain would hand over any of the ship's valuables, or his crew's lives for a single prisoner. Then again, this is the conjectural thief we're speaking about - if he considered capturing the captain, he wouldn't give another thought to the result of this supposedly brilliant plan of his.

[pause]

[laugh]

And here I thought I tended to over think a lot. Perhaps you should have applied as a strategist instead.

[A chuckle.]

As entertaining a notion that would be, I'm afraid I wouldn't make a very adept strategist. This is but a mere supposition - if I was faced with a real, more precarious issue, I'd probably be at a loss. As you've clearly witnessed, I've taken Bonnefoy's stash of truffles without even realizing it was the last, and I even failed to keep an eye on the network for his entry.

So, no, I'm afraid that being a cook is the occupation that suits my capabilities best. Even if I'm at risk for unintentionally using up a depository of food from a lack of observation.

Well, I'm sure that your nerves will be put to the test in the Victoria. This ship runs into more trouble than most, if I recall.

It was a mistake, there's no need to beat yourself over the head about it. Bonnefoy may require apology, however.

Really? I haven't heard much about the Victoria. Save for being one of the best military ships with an austere captain. I suppose I ought to keep an eye on the news a little more closely.

[Another chuckle.] Oh, I know. I was only jesting. As for an apology, consider one offered as soon as I'm able to find him.

Perhaps. The Victoria has quite a... reputation.
