gawad likhaan!

i came across the contest rules for the gawad likhaan this year and my heart almost stopped when i read the prizes at stake. my, it really rocked some sense out of me to encounter such prizes for writing. i've always had this notion that literary contests do not compensate well monetarily but i guess there is some amount of justification to this year's prizes. it is the centennial edition after all. though i'm not aware of the prizes from previous years, i am pretty sure up's centenary plays a big part in this year's pot for the writers.

though after i finished reading the contest rules, the wind managed it's way back to my system. it just hit me that no matter what i do, there is no way i can come up with 50 poems in english or filipino before march. as of last count, sad to say, i only have 40 decent poems in both languages.

so much for my daydreaming i guess (or "night" dreaming in this case). well there will be other contests i suppose. and if ever i find the courage, i might submit entries for the palanca. who knows, my name might just end up getting printed on the papers come september.

should i say, "dream on!" some more?

anyways, here's a link to the gawad likhaan contest rules.
