Games

Do you know why we like to play games? Here's what I think:

I think that games are expressions of our greater existence. Our souls which animate us and give us the sense of 'I am' are themselves playful things which exist foremost for the sake of experiencing things. That is the impetus behind exploration, curiosity, and most of all for the recreational urge. When all is said and done, what is left in all of existence except for the experience of having existed? The thought has occurred to me before (and I think it has merit) that our souls choose where, when, and to whom to be born. To an extent we choose our parents, siblings, perhaps even friends. How hard is that to suppose? Anyone that's ever played a role-playing game need only think this: You, the player, are like a soul, and that character you have created and are playing, who is at your whim as well as the whims of the world he/she is in is like a mind and body animated in its own world and given life. Now take that thought to the next logical step and consider the different games you may play, be they puzzle games, video games, perhaps even other and different RPGs. You do them sometimes simultaneously to each other, yes? So it is possible that a single soul may be the animus behind many different existences over different times, perhaps different worlds, and even different states of conciousness or being. It could go a ways toward explaining the concept that time's linear progression is more of an illusion than we know, as well as explaining recollection of past lives, even coincidences that seem to defy explanation.

They are all conditions of the game.

But what do I know? I'm just a character. My player allowed me to have this thought...or maybe he (she?) just rolled the right dice.
