[If Rosella is in the Turnabout Cafe, well, of course she'd catch Cain's eye. How could she not? He's there most every day and certainly knows who comes and goes in his own cafe. And he will, of course, notice the dirt on her dress, though perhaps she was either planting or digging flowers--it's difficult to say. But she does seem agitated, uncertain, as though something is weighing on her--something she dug up, perhaps?

He'll pass a little too close to her to see if she speaks or if she doesn't, and follow from there.]

[She may be a bit lost in thought, but it'd take her a lot to distract her enough that she'd miss Cain passing by. She hadn't picked the Turnabout because she was hoping to see him specifically--rather, just that it was a closer place to stop and relax and recuperate than trying to make it all the way back to the Warehouse from Xanadu--but the thought that he might be around was undoubtedly a factor she took into consideration.]

Pardon me, you're the owner, aren't you? I'd like to compliment you on your lovely cafe; the service here has been just wonderful today.

[She keeps her tone light, almost teasing--perhaps a little too light, for someone who knows her so well.]

[Of course he has to stop and reply now that she's spoken to him. To do otherwise would be exceedingly rude. He'll respond in kind, of course.]

I am yes. And thank you--you really are too kind. We've been a little busy of late, but we certainly do try to serve everyone as best we can.

[She smiles a little, setting her drink to the side.]

I couldn't help but notice, though, that one of your lamps is missing its bulb. However could that have happened, I wonder?

I was given it yesterday, actually, as one of those bizarre gifts. I've not yet got around to putting it back, though.

How very thoughtful of someone, to do that for you.

All joking aside, though, things do seem to be going well here today. Have you been keeping very busy?

As busy as usual, I suppose. It looks as though you've been keeping busy as well, or else those marks on your skirt are excellent liars.

[The marks on her skirt are about as excellent of liars as she is--which is to say, not at all. Which is also why she can't hide the way her shoulders go tense at the remark.]

I, um. I was out visiting Ellington. Down by the lake, I...went for a walk.

And fell, by the looks of things. Are you quite sure you're all right?

[His inclination, as ever, is to be suspicious.]

I...yes, I did.

[In a manner of speaking.]

I didn't hurt myself. It was just a slip.

At least you didn't hurt yourself--I'm glad of that. But it looks as though your skirts bore the brunt of it all.

[The problem, though, as he sees it, is that her hands seem all right while the skirts around her knees don't. How could someone fall in such a way?]

They'll wash, though. I just haven't been home to change yet.

[A fidgety moment passes, and she fidgets with it.]

There's a rhyme stuck in my head and I can't get it out. Something about a cat. I wonder if it's only bothering me because I can only recall a bit of it, but can't remember the rest? He lived on a barge and was the roughest cat to ever...something or other. I can't seem to think of it.

[He sees that fidgeting :|]

The roughest cat to ever...charge? It must be something to rhyme with 'barge', if it's that sort of poem.

You might ask Merry about it, you know, or you could search through the library. I know I'm not quite the one to know nursery rhymes and these sorts of things.

That could be it. I think he was a big cat, after all. Certainly a dangerous one. Really, I don't know why it's bothering me so much.

[This is a flagrant lie, and it shows.]

It's not just the rhyme that's bothering you, is it, Rosella?

[...big cat...]

You didn't go looking for Rumpelstiltskin did you?

No!

[Luckily, her exclamation isn't particularly loud at all, but it does have the speed and intensity to make it sound like one.]

No, I just went down by the lake to see Ellington. And...something happened. I'm fine, it's just...something happened.
