The word "harpy", it's Greek--it comes from a word I can't quite recall, harpa-something, I think, but it means "to snatch", and that's where "harpy" comes from: it means "that which snatches". Which I suppose means they're scavengers of a sort, and rather a bit like vultures in their own way ( Read more... )

Has anyone tried to do anything about all this as yet?

Our floundering about in that boat hardly counts as 'anything'.

I don't know. I haven't seen any calls to arms, myself, but that doesn't mean that there haven't been any. And I know some people have been out trying to handle the harpies, at least, if nothing else.

Harpies and storm winds. Do you suppose they go together?

I suppose they might. I'm more interested in how to set the City's barriers up again. But at least some people are trying to deal with the harpies.

I'm about at the point of going out to try brown paper and plaster again, myself. More for the sake of going out than-- But we can't just go on like this. Something has to be done, and soon.

Yes, I know. And I know I haven't any kind of strength or power to try and mend these things. Brown paper may be my only chance if I'm to do anything.

It's frustrating, being so helpless at a time like this. But what is there to do?

I don't know.

...This may sound like a rather odd question, but have you been feeling...strange, since we went out past the barrier?

Now that I've quite dried out and warmed up again, not especially.

Why? Have you?

It's odd. I keep finding myself thinking about it, for some reason. It's...a feeling like we missed something somehow, even though I know there wasn't anything out there. But I keep wanting a second look, anyway.

How very odd--I wouldn't recommend doing that, though, obviously.

You haven't been feeling that way? Not at all?

Reply

misterblackbird April 4 2011, 02:13:56 UTC
Not to speak of. I've been rather distracted, of course.

Maybe it's nothing, then. Things catching up to me.

Are you quite certain?

I don't know. It might just be that I wanted so badly to find something that now I'm clinging to the possibility that we might've missed it.

...But on the other hand, I know for certain I wouldn't be the only one on edge for reasons I couldn't explain, either.
