You know what that creature's called?

It's some sort of bear, isn't it?

Shouldn't you have researched before using it?

It was a gift from a friend, Amory. And I thought it was cute. Why, is there something wrong with it?

Nothing's wrong, I was just curious.

They're called the Giant Panda. Native to China - where my mom's family used to live.

Really? They don't look very giant--though I suppose that's only to be expected, if it's only a baby. Or do you mean that they're pandas that giants keep around? I suppose it could go either way, really.

Have you ever seen one yourself, other than in a picture?

Relative to other species of pandas, they're giants. And I doubt a giant could own one, anyway.

I have.

They're actually not so bad, giants. Well, as monsters go, anyway. They're really more dimwitted than anything else, though you do run into an evil one every once in a while. Every bushel has a few bad apples, and so on.

Really! That must've been simply marvelous.

I wouldn't know.

Haven't you been to the zoo here?

not a problem bb! primrosella January 29 2011, 03:27:07 UTC
Oh! Did you mean in a zoo? I thought you meant you'd seen one just wandering around, while visiting your mother's family or something like that. After all, it's one thing to see an animal in a zoo like the one here, but quite another to see it in the wild.

There hasn't been any visiting, they're all dead.

But it'd be hard find one wandering around, since they're a threatened species.

Oh, I...I'm so very sorry to hear that, Amory.

There's something threatening them?

I never knew them, Rosella. It doesn't matter.

Poachers? Low breeding rates?

Even so, it's unfortunate, and I'm sorry to hear it.

You mean people hunt them? Are they particularly vicious, then?
