Quest 128

After spending the better part of a week repeating back everyone else's words as they said them to me, it's really a refreshing and welcomed change to sit down and write some of my own, instead. We've had curses before that have prevented us from speaking our mind, either by forcing us to speak in verse or making us write in letters or changing the ( Read more... )

If you're talking about silver linings and not letting the City get the best of you, I think you must be back to yourself, Rosella.

The fact that I'm miraculously finding myself able to string together more than four or five words at a time again wasn't enough of an indication?

I'm sorry about all this.

Well, that was my first clue, I admit.

What happened, Rosella? What really happened?

What really happened...was a very great misunderstanding, I think.

What do you mean?

I mean I know who did it, and I think I know why, and I'm in no way saying that it was right...but that I can understand why it happened, just the same.

You're still not saying what happened, though.

I'd rather not spread it all over the Network, if I can help it. Blue's angry enough already, and I'm sure plenty of other people feel just the same way.

How much of it do you know already?

Then I won't say anything and we'll keep matters under a lock.

All I know is that you were far from the only person affected by it all, Chrono and Shader and He-Who-Kills all sensed something dark at work which was neither a curse nor the 'deities', and, as of yesterday, someone called 'Princess Tutu' was undoing whatever had been done. I saw something similar to this happen a long time ago, but I was more concerned with making sure that you didn't wander off, much as I could while still being made to race around the City.

Now will you please tell me what happened so that if it should happen again we can take some steps against it.

I was coming home from the Library when I ran into Rue. This was...Sunday, I think, and we had just had that curse a few days before--the one that made everyone so miserable, with the letters. She said she wanted to talk to me about it. That she wanted to share her sadness with her friends.

I remember she asked me to give up my heart. I think she must've charmed me somehow, so that I couldn't do anything but agree. And then I remember it hurt and then...well.

She ordered me to say the deities did it, if I was ever asked what had happened. That's why I was never able to say. I would've, if I could have.

There's always been something sinister in Princess Rue, somehow. I know she fights against it, but I've wondered, sometimes, when she seems to lose control, how very far her abilities might go.

So that's the truth of what happened. It's little wonder no one's seen Princess Rue in days, then.

I suppose now we know what she can and might do. I wonder what she thinks of this herself.

No one's seen her in days? Oh, no, not this again...

I'm not excusing what she did, but...all the same, I don't think she did it out of malice. I thought she was doing better after she'd gone home and come back, but then that curse struck her and...I don't know.

So I've heard, at least. I suppose it makes sense now.

'Princess Tutu' said something similar: she refused to give up the name of the one responsible, because while she's responsible, she didn't do it of her own accord. It seems quite merciful--more merciful than most people would be.

Oh, rats. We'll never find her if she doesn't want to be found, either.

What does anyone stand to gain by hating her for it? I lose a friend and she falls even further into what brought her to this point in the first place--being alone. How does that make anything better at all?

I think Fakir can find her, no matter where she goes. She'll be found.

It doesn't make matters better, but want for revenge is a very strong want.

Then tell him to find her as quickly as he can, because everyone else will be looking for her, too.

If it had only been my heart she took, I could forgive her and no one would like it but we'd all manage it somehow, anyway. But it's more than just me, it's Todd and Blair's friend Chuck and all those people...and I know she's going to have to face what she did, and I can't excuse it, but I'm her friend. I can't just give up on her.
