how it's going to OMG RUIN THE ECONOMY. It's interesting to go back and see that basically the same things were said about Medicare and Social Security
And there wasn't an expiration date to those warnings. In case you hadn't noticed, both of those programs are in a wee bit 'o trouble moneywise, and any substantial fix is going to clock the economy a good one right in the kisser.
They keep saying that the Dems may have won the battle, but they'll lose the war.
Hmm. Well, the Chinese Water Torture has been known to be effective. ;)
But really, sure, SS and Medicare have issues, but nobody can seriously say that either was the Leninist-Marxist government takeover the fearmongers were telling everyone they were going to be back in the day. I'm not saying there aren't any problems, just that all the hyperbole is silly and ridiculous. And yeah, I know that's redundant. :)
FWIW, I read "The Fountainhead" when I was in high school. It was the most accessible of Ayn Rand's novels. I also read "Atlas Shrugged."
You know what? She wasn't a very good writer. Those two books were just too turgid and so full of her philosophy that it got in the way of the story, and the story was marginal, at best. The only thing she wrote that was even halfway interesting was "We The Living,' which is either autobiographical or semi-autobiographical, and had to do with her family's escape from the Soviet Union into Finland. After reading that, I came away with more understanding of why she was such a rabid capitalist and why she was so vociferous about individual freedoms and so forth. I still think she was wrong wrong wrong about just about everything, but her point of view made a lot more sense. And hey, even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
I've been trying to read it because I figure, how can I argue objectivism without reading Rand (and sure, I could have become a total convert, but um, not very likely *g*)? It's just that, yeah, she kind of sucks as a writer.
I should look at "We the Living", though. I loves me some living history.
Loving the Lady Eleanor and your yarn! Very gorgeous. I've never tried entrelac, but have several patterns that use it saved for later. Did you ever have any luck with your Obama scarf? I'm still at about 60% completion, but I did bring it back out for more work recently. OMG it's such slow going!
Congrats on the promising new living situation! When do you think you're moving?
The entrelac is becoming less intimidating as I go on. Once I figured out the concept, it got waay easier. The Obama scarf is on hold because I didn't like the yarn--I really didn't want DK, and it's what I ended up with because I wasn't paying attention. It's still something I want to make, though. :)
My lease is up in June, so I should be leaving thereabouts. I really, really hate moving, but this time it should be not so bad because I don't have a lot of stuff and I haven't been in this apt. very long.

Yep, sounds about right. My money's on red.

The moving should be very good. The moving-in, not so much.
