Ah, that would be a logical reason for Cutter counting ribs. Although not for him knowing the sex of the skeleton :D

well, at least on my side of the Pond, "man" can be gender-specific as well as gender-neutral.
(ie, "its a man" is shorter than "its some altogether other person entirely and I have no idea who it is") :D
