Primeval Fabulous Females Fest
A few of us have been talking over the last few weeks - or months even - about how we'd really love to see some more fic, art etc in the fandom that features the female characters front and centre.
And with a New Year looming, now seems as good a time as any. So we have declared January 2009 as Fabulous Females Fest month!
What does this mean?
Among other things, we're going to be running a Fabulous Female Fest Fic Challenge, which will be a lot less structured than the ficathons we've previously run. Basically, the challenge is, simply:
Write a fic, whether that's a drabble or a novel, that focuses on one or more of the female characters in Primeval.
All genres - gen, het, slash, femslash, threesomes, moresomes - and pairings are welcome. The only stipulation is that your story should focus on the female characters. They don't have to be the only characters, but they should be front and centre, being fabulous. So, for example, if you'd like to write a Nick/Stephen story told from Abby's point of view, that's absolutely fine.
It's really about celebrating the girls, whether they're kicking ass or rolling their eyes about how obvious the boys are being!
Is it just fic?
Nope. I'm hoping that maybe people will be inspired to create art, make recs, make pic!spams, create userpics, do screencaps, whatever they want.
It's all about sharing the love for our favourite female characters after all, no matter how we show it :)
What if I don't have any ideas? What if I have ideas but don't feel that I can write them?
Well, this is where the unstructured thing comes in. I'm going to collect prompts in the comments of this post so please feel free to leave as many as you like. You're under no obligation to use them if you want to write something, but they're there if you're looking for inspiration.
If you'd like to suggest a prompt, please keep it fairly simple. The idea is to spark someone's creativity rather than plot out the story for them ::g:: So, something like:
Abby/Jenny - when the boys are away, the girls play
would be brilliant.
So which female characters are you talking about?
Any of the regular or recurring characters would be absolutely fine. I'm going to use the American TV definition of regular or recurring, so:
Regular = signed up to appear in most if not all episodes, so Abby, Claudia, Jenny would be considered 'regular' characters
Recurring = appearing in more than one episode, but not signed up to appear in every ep, so that would be people like Helen or Caroline
You can write any story you would like about those characters - pre-series, to show how their characters developed before we met them; during the series itself; post the series to so you can show how the events effect them in the future.
If you'd like to write a story around 'guest star' characters, that would be fine, too, but in keeping with the ethos of this community, if you'd like to post it here, please link it to the show. In other words, if you'd like to write a story about Valerie (the ep with the Sabretooth), a story set during the episode or related to the events of the episode, for example when her boyfriend died, would be great :) Writing about Valerie's childhood wouldn't really be relevant for this community unless you created a strong link to the episode she appears in.
If we post it here?
Yep. We realise that some people might like to write stories about the female characters that perhaps aren't suitable for this particular community, so while we'd rather selfishly like stories that we can all read ::g:: please feel free to use any prompts that inspire you to write whatever stories about the female characters you'd like. We just want more female character fic, art and love.
