"Welcome to Apeville! Now you're a citizen, too!
Meet Mrs. Doreen Pompidou
She'd like to do the shimmy on top of you
The wall is coming down
The one which holds the house up
A brass band playing in a dump truck
is visible through clouds of brick dust
as people dressed as cows form an orderly queue
for a drug that makes you dead for a second or two
I raise myself from my punchbowl, drowning:
'The Yakuza are singing, it can't be true!'
Go home, Bible Mike! Go home, Bible Mike!
Go home, Bible Mike! Go home, Bible Mike!
Her hand squeezes mine and I shudder
She says, 'That was one shock, now here comes another
You really don't remember, do you?'
I said, 'Why? Am I supposed to?
Me, the slut of disheveled women
whom fun has made sad and careless?'
and she's knocked me onto the greasy floor
and a eunuch is barring the only door
Pilar, in her room above the farmacia,
smiles as she pictures your little thing
Imagine her surprise when she looks through the window
and sees you riddled with bullets while the cops all sing,
'Go home, Bible Mike! Go home, Bible Mike!
You preach without a right, go home, Bible Mike!'
You don't make me laugh, you don't make me horny,
so what the hell are we doing here?
Gasping all night in this Nazi city
You bit it, I'm bleeding, we're sliding in my blood
Fucking with my blood, market my blood! Market my blood!
You got a tourist mind
Deaf, numb and blind to all the pain you bring
This is more than just sin
'Am I really such a nightmare? If I had a home I'd go there'
Anytime you like
This court says, 'Take a hike!'
The slate will not be wiped
Just go home, Bible Mike
Go home, Bible Mike
Go home, Bible Mike
Go home, Bible Mike..."
-The Fatima Mansions, "Go Home Bible Mike", Lost in the Former West, 1994 1. It's funny how many friends of mine are having wisdom tooth troubles right now. I guess we're at that age now. Mine are growing in as well (very slowly over the past four months), but I must be a freak of nature because mine don't hurt a bit! *knock on wood*
2. Last Wednesday it didn't get above 35 degrees (about 1.5 Celsius). Factor in the wind and it apparently the temperature felt like it would have been 5 Fahrenheit. Welcome to Florida! It was neat to be outside in, but rather unnerving because I missed three city buses that day. I really am having the worst luck with catching buses these days, but that was particularly awful. I spent most of that afternoon outdoors waiting for buses that never came (or came too early). The only times that I went indoors was when A) I ducked into Decent Pizza for warmth and food and B) I received a much-needed haircut. I hadn't lowered my ears in two months, partially because I was broke, partially because of holiday interference, partially because one of my hairdressers was moving and the other one went downstate to visit her family, so it got really fluffy!
3. On Thursday I ventured up to the station to DJ and stuck around for a while after I finished up before heading to All Saints with Shawn and Will. Eventually a number of us went over to Jackie's and then we opted on having Bamboo House for dinner. Jess dropped off Chantelle and Shawn back at home and the rest of us went to meet Nicholas at Finnegan's Wake. Saturday was another long day, though less active; I merely did Time Machine and went with Bradley to All Saints and Vinyl Fever (where I bought five slabs of vinyl: Department S' "I Want" 12", some 10" on Blast First that looked pretty neat, a Ramleh 7", Rickie Lee Jones' Pirates, and a Ze Record sampler that had Cristina, Coati Mundi, Was (Not Was) and others on it) before being dropped off at work for a basketball game. On Sunday I ventured up to the station for the first DJ meeting of the year, went with a number of DJs to Bahn Thai for dinner, and eventually moseyed over to 80's Night and had decent fun dancing with Rebecca, Jobeth, Lauren, Michael and others.
4. Other notes: I don't like this new edition of Firefox. It's waaay too easy to close out tabs. I have to work the Ringling Circus tomorrow and Wednesday. I'll probably miss out on V89's Cattle Call on the latter day for that reason. I also have to work a wrestling match on the weekend. Yeehaw, this must be cowboy country.
