(I was rather preoccupied with training Ryan, so I didn't listen to much. Also, I did a shift the next day while training his girlfriend Katherine, but I was too busy to even list songs for the day.)
Wooden Shjips - "Lucy's Ride" from Wooden Shjips
Young Marble Giants - "Searching for Mr Right (Peel Version)" from Colossal Youth & Collected Works
And now, a music quizlet.
1. A track from your early childhood: Mm, there's so many! Let's go with Hoodoo Gurus - "Bittersweet" or Pop Will Eat Itself's "Wise Up! Sucker".
2. A track that you associate with your first love: The Cure - "Charlotte Sometimes"
3. A track that reminds you of a holiday trip: Kitchens of Distinction - "The Third Time We Opened the Capsule"
4. A track that you like but wouldn't want to be associated with in public: Heh. I think it's too late about Cathy Dennis.
5. A track that accompanied you when you were lovesick: Hmm, that's an interesting one that will require a bit of thought! *after some deliberation* I'll say Moloko's "Familiar Feeling".
6. A track that you have probably listened to most often: Probably Cocteau Twins - "The Spangle Maker". More recently, Hunters & Collectors - "Talking to a Stranger" and Thomas Dolby's "Europa and the Pirate Twins".
7. A track that is your favourite instrumental: Either Simple Minds - "Theme for Great Cities" or Mission of Burma's "All World Cowboy Romance" or 23 Skidoo's "The Gospel Comes to New Guinea". Actually, it's the latter.
8. A track that represents one of your favourite bands: Look Blue Go Purple - "Safety in Crosswords"
9. A track which represents yourself best: Another toughie. Scritti Politti's "Confidence", most likely. Magazine's "A Song From Under the Floorboards" not too far behind, either.
10. A track that reminds you of a special occasion (which one?): I don't really experience many special occasions, and that renders me unable to answer this question.
11. A track that you can relax to: Dif Juz - "Mi"
12. A track that stands for a really good time in your life: I'll go with Johnny "Guitar" Watson - "Superman Lover"
13. A track that is currently your favourite: Look Blue Go Purple - "100 Times" is my temporary favorite of the moment.
14. A track that you'd dedicate to your best friend: For Shawn, I choose Associates' version of "Boys Keep Swinging". For Lindsay, I'll opt for "Hell Bent" by Band of Susans because it seems like something she'd like.
15. A track that you think nobody but you likes: Mm, if I've learned anything in collecting a knowledge of arcane and popular music, it's the fact that anything I hail will doubtlessly be enjoyed by AT LEAST one person.
16. A track that you like especially for its lyrics: Another tough one, mainly because it's difficult to find mentally stimulating lyrical content and always has been. Musicians usually don't make the best writers. I've already mentioned Kitchens of Distinction, Magazine and Scritti Politti, too, so I don't feel like namedropping them again. Fitzgerald, Devoto and Gartside have some pretty damn literate material. (Yes, I did mention Look Blue Go Purple twice, but they could always use more exposure.) Fuck it, let's go for Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper's "Elvis is Everywhere" because it would be nothing without the words!
17. A track that you like that's neither (in) English nor (in) German: Ouch, so (some songs from) Daniela, Hanna Schygulla and Peer Raben's version of "Lili Marleen", and Die Doraus und die Marinas are out, then. Hmm, let's avoid typical non-English fare (i.e. nothing from Japan, France, Brazil, and Sweden) and go for a recent favorite in Hungarian! Koncz Zsuzsa - "Mr. Alkohol"
18. A track that lets you release tension best: Right now, the most obvious choice would be Mark Stewart and the Maffia's "Bastards"
19. A track that you want to be played on your funeral: The Birthday Party's "Mutiny in Heaven" and I mean it!
20. A track that you'd nominate for the ‘best of all times’ category: Some of my favorite songs have a little more personal significance to me, so I would rather opt for something universal, something that everyone seems to like. How about Michael Jackson's "Rock With You"?
