Slippery Slidey Road Down

1. I'm glad that The Verve reworked "Come On" a bit, because the demo version I have of theirs from the sessions for A Northern Soul ain't pretty. Richard Ashcroft sounds like Rod Stewart and Tom Petty being swallowed by Tom Waits. Yipes!

2. Has anyone listened to the Coquina Marble song I posted yesterday?

Apologies - didn't get a chance last night, will give it a listen over the weekend.

Trying to get people on Livejournal to listen to your music is like pulling teeth.

It wasn't always so difficult. Back in my days as Moraine (about four years ago) I had a swarm of people compliment a song of mine called "We Belong to the Economy". It was weird to receive all that praise for it.

I listened to your song. I like that somewhat 80s New Order feel to it. Your voice gets slightly overwhelmed by the electronic music though, which is too bad - can that be adjusted?

Hmm, really? I didn't think it sounded New Order-ish at all, so it's interesting to hear that take. I can still adjust it, yes -- but I'll have to be careful. I don't want my voice to be TOO forward and dominate everything else.

"…faux-spiritual bombast provided by the likes of The Arcade Fire and U2…"

Spot-On!..& priceless! ;)

Ian, the track "Panacea" is quite an accomplishment: it amazes me to hear this all come together. In my opinion the vocals sound just right in the mix the way they are, although the overall volume of the track could benefit from a boost.
OK, so here's the Sounds Like... game, ready?

Pale Saints' In Ribbons
 Cocteau Twins c.1990
 Jarvis Alan Cocker-Vega

...and don't you doubt for a MINUTE that those are all compliments!

Fun Fact: You follow Conway Twitty in my iTunes library.
Better Than That: You're the warm-up act for Corey Hart!

I miss you, I do. Let's spend a whole day together, can we?

ii. Haha!
iia. The volume would've been louder but the bass kept distorting wildly in the mastering process, and I didn't want to change my volume settings in each channel because I thought they were perfect and it would've taken me ages to get them right again. Maybe I'll do a dub of it where I keep that distortion (a la The Missing Brazilians on Adrian Sherwood's On-U-Sound label).
To me, the music (or rather, the guitars) sound like I cribbed them from a middle-period Disco Inferno song or an early Alison's Halo track. It wasn't intentional, but I found the guitar sound by accident and had to keep it. It was originally supposed to be more synth-based!
iib. Awesome! In my iTunes, I'm between Coolio and Cougars (the latter appeared on that Jamaica to Toronto compilation that was in rotation a few months ago).
iii. I miss you, too. Sorry I was so exhausted earlier -- I didn't sleep well last night and I made a pledge to myself to receive a sufficient amount of sleep every day this week so I won't feel so fraught. Yes, let's spend a day ( ... )

Weird how I still get Suicide/Alan Vega comparisons and yet I've only heard a couple of songs. What in particular sounds like Mr. Vega, out of curiosity?

The opening minute-thirty.

Although there is a voice resemblance, there's a music resemblance, too. The track opens like a Suicide song would -- and perhaps this just serves to magnify the (perceived) Vega/vocals resemblance.
